New Bass Day!

First new bass is quite awhile. I have been participating in blues jams and realize that my "great for metal" Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string is not helping my "acceptance factor" with the old blues experts. I have been interested in a lighter bass and I must admit, I never had a Fender so I figured it was time.

62nd birthday was a week ago....decided to treat myself to a Fender American Standard Jazz Bass 4-string. I must admit, I like the sound and playability, though key of E is now a p.i.t.a.

Yeah, crappy phone photo, but at least it's posted!:bassist:

Believe it or not, that is metallic gold.

Nice bass it will serve you well enjoy!

Mmmmmmmmm...nothing like a Jazz. You did very well. To further your acceptance with your bluesy friends, put some flats like GHS Perecisions to make them really happy. Have fun!

Welcome to the dark side :-)

While the Warwick does have a more "modern" sound, I am willing to bet a good portion of this lack of acceptance has more to do with them "hearing" with their eyes more than their ears. It just seems to be the way of things.

In either case the new J looks pretty sweet. Happy jammin'!:hyper:

Pain in the a**

Congratulations. I would never have guessed it to be metallic gold.
Also, I had a chuckle when I saw they are still including the same strap.

Its all visual....the 5 string blows their minds too.

I have never owned a 4 string tho and now that im playing it intensely to get over the missing B, the necks on the 5 string warwick and Lakland feel like aircraft carriers!

Is that why the pickups make that zuum zuum sound like laser swords?:ninja:

Congrats on your new family member!! I think a Fender Jazz is one of those basses that everyone should own at one point in their lives, either to realize they love it or hate it. Also, never would have guessed that it was gold. The pic makes it look VERY silver to me. But either way, she is purty!!

Agreed. I take my Spectors to blues jams all the time & guys love the growl they get, despite being modern.

Right! It is a seriously dorky strap I guess unless you are a Fender fanboy.

The Lakland will cough up its strap temporarily....:bassist:

Well happy 62nd Birthday - you deserve a new bass just for getting that far!

M Sterling 01-10-2013 04:45 PM

Nice! I just got a jazz bass myself!

Why thank you! Based on genes im good for another 25...

Happy 62 and many more. Lovely jazz, would love to see some high-res photos of the color. If a fiver neck feels like an aircraft carrier, then I guess a 4-banger J neck must be a frigate. Carry on! :D

FrednBass 01-11-2013 02:58 PM

Where's the pic?

Stu Hamm tells a story where he arrived at a studio with an Alembic. The producer tells him that although the Alembic probably sounds great, he's going to have to go home and get his P-Bass as that will look the part.
