I hear ya! Think I'll stop GC tomorrow and play one. Do Bongos have the signature 'growl' like my stingray or is it a different monster entirely?

IMO, its definitely got that distinct MusicMan sound, but I don't think I've begun to explore the variety of sounds you can get from this pre-amp.

I can't imagine you trying it out and NOT liking it. Go have some fun. Note how comfortable it feels too. Most people I've seen said it feels good too, but I have seen 1 or 2 people that disagreed.

Not sure what you mean. If you're talking about pickup placement, I believe its the same. I THINK the pickups use different magnets than the Stingrays though. Maybe one of these MusicMan experts can speak to this (Crabby).

Hey Chris, that color is beautiful. I just picked up two Bongo's in the last couple of weeks. A 5HH and a 4H. Wonderful basses. They have great tone and have a great feel. Good luck with your new Bongo...

Also...Bridge pickup is not in the Musicman position on the Bongo HH. The Stingray HH bridge pickup does have Musicman 4H placement.

I ordered mine direct from Music Man. The one on the Black Bongo is a Black Ice and it is discontinued. They also made a White Ice, but that is also discontinued. I actually found the Black Ice Pickguard here in the classifieds. I was really having a hard time deciding between the Vintage Pearl and White Ice guard for the Candy Red Bongo, but trying to find a White Ice guard for it made me buy the Vintage Pearl.

Tried a 4 string today. My thoughts are starting to change about MM Bongos. Just need to try a 5 or a 6, but very impressed. I have to learn to get pass looks I guess.

Cool, glad you liked the sound. Id like to hear and play a 5 string bongo myself, but its pretty tough to find a lefty to try.

Ugh...sorry to hear that. Now, is it me or is the Bongo way lighter than the Stingray? That was the first thing that caught my attention...but again, I played a 4 string. So a 5 or a 6 might be just as heavy?

it's not really the same. the bongo HH pickups are further toward the bridge, so the bridge pickup is not in the classic stingray position.
