I've been in China for the past year, and haven't had a custom build done in at least a year and a half, so I spoke with Cliff, and we're going to build a WILD bass together! Here it is:
4 string deluxe
33 1/2" scale (like an F bass, but in the opposite direction. Mike Browne did this for me...WOW! What a difference!
alder or walnut body TBD
hard ash back
black veneer lines on top and back
CRAZY circus-red dyed "maple burl top #69" from his available tops page...maybe enhanced grain? (stained, then sand off, then re-stain to make the burl "pop"? matched head, of course.
maple highlights EVERYWHERE...clean, bright quartersawn maple pickup covers, maple F-Bass-style knobs, maybe?
Bloodwood accents in the neck heel
Stacked humbucking Nord J SE's.
Exposed poles under quarter-sawn maple pickup covers
Chrome Hipshot hardware, tuners included...
3 band pre...HOT output. Probably Pope, wired up V/V/Passive T/T/M/B, active/passive switch, and a kill (ground) switch
Face-mount output jack
Very hard, clean rosewood board with bright clean large Smith-sized maple face dots.
small vintage frets with a super rounded over fingerboard edge...like Dunlop 6230 or banjo frets from Stew-Mac
1 1/2 at nut
J bass neck shape....FAST!!!!
This should be WILD! Going to be my last build for a while. So, this one should be pretty special! Bright red/ clean maple, chocolatey warm rosewood...hoping it is going to be a special one!
