Say what you will, I think the Mystic Blue is beautiful. Very rich and shimmery looking from the photo - and no it doesn't look like the Squier affinity's plastic blue.

Mystic Red? I don't quite get that. What was wrong with Candy Cola? It doesn't look particularly different at first glance, either.

What's your thoughts?
Hideous and cheap-looking. Blue instruments are a really hard retail sell, too, and always have been.

I imagine they'll make a few short runs of these, most of which will eventually wind up as long clearance sale items, as in my famed Law of Blue Guitars.

Metallic purple is at least wiseguy-ironic.

Blue's just a taste fail.

Re my Law of Blue Guitars, I was just looking at a sale on some Les Pauls a few minutes ago. Bunch of colors, blue being $400 or $500 (I forget) less than the other colors, just for being blue.

I've have some nice instruments I bought new, dumped at scrap value just for being blue.

Seriously, it's a retail curse.

Sonic or light blue is amazing. Dark blues?! Nah. Especially on a Fender.

I think the person in charge of picking paint colors at Fender is color blind.

Guitarists get all the cool colors. I just can't imagine why they don't think that bassists want the same things.

I wouldn't mind a blue bass at all, especially a saturated blue like this. I'm not crazy about a lot of these old DuPont custom colors mentioned like Daphne or Sonic Blue, or Shoreline Gold. They not only look dated to me, but also gaudy. Everyone has their own opinion of class and IMO this is quite nice.

I will, however, agree that Seafoam Green, Natural and some sort of Orange color would be a nice addition. I don't have a problem (or raw hatred that some have) with this color.

I like Seafoam Green, but I don't get the hate for blue. I even think the Squire Affinity looks fine. But what do I know, I guess I'll have to deal with my irrational love of blue...

It's not the color, it's the color on the bass it's on. Like some cars look better in certain colors, so do certain basses. Rics look good in any color.

Now, check this out, for the past 10 years Left-handed US Fender Jazz and P Basses have only been available in black or sunburst and only with rosewood neck...Pretty sucky, right? (think about what it is to be a left handed bass player for a minute!)
I wish Fender would occasionally release a few lefty special runs (I'd buy a Olympic white/maple neck jazz bass in a minute after its release!) but lefties are the red-headed step child of the Fender production.
In other hand, since last month, Gibson was cool enough to produce most of their basses for lefties...(Thank you folks at Gibson!)

5sg.

This looks good. Very. Fender should offer this new blue with a pearl guard and matching headstock.

This guy understands. I wish Fender would make a variety of purple basses, I wouldn't have to spend money on refinishing them.

I don't NEED anymore basses, but I would run out and buy one of each of these colors. Especially with maple necks.
