New Fender Am deluxe might be a buzzer, might not.

Picked up a '12 Olywhite jazz deluxe 5er about a month ago. So far I am really loving the tone of the N3's in active mode. Love the neck, love the balance. BUT.....I've played three gigs with this bad boy at three different venues, same rig for all gigs. The first two I had zero buzz, the last one in an older theater was a bummer though. Buzzed pretty bad in active mode, and still a tiny bit in passive mode.

My ? is this. Can I assume that since there was no buzz at the first two venues that this thing is shielded properly and the wiring in the third venue was just really bad? I had heard that many guitar players who play this venue can't use anything with single coil pickups. Kimock came and played this theater a year or two ago and only could use a small percentage of his arsenal. I'll be playing a different venue tomorrow night so I'll have another chance to test the waters so to speak.

Thanks for any beta!

It's the venue. Most likely dimmer packs for the lighting grid or just plain ol' dirty AC.

Thats what I was hoping to hear.. We almost named our band "dirty power" cuz of the bad wiring in our rehearsal space.

I'll report back after the next show,

thanks!

I agree that is more than likely the venue. I have owned dozens of basses of every conceivable variety and every single one of them has buzz when I play them at my chuch (lights dimmers etc)

The shielding is pretty crappy in the new Deluxe Js. I had a 2011 J5 deluxe that was buzzy. Spent an hour doing a full shielding job and it was quiet as a mouse. Did the same with my NOS Marcus Miller 4. 60 cycle buzz like crazy. Shielded it properly and now it's quiet.

Get some copper tape from stew mac. Really easy to do.

There was a whole thread on how buzzy these basses are, started shortly after the series was launched. Some guys found that better shielding helped.

The theatre I used to play in had horrible power. Every bass I used hummed. Ended up buying a Boss noise gate. Worked great.
