The concept was that players would anchor their index/middle fingers on the rest, and pluck with their thumbs. |

But why call it thumbrest then? Should it be named Finger-rest?

myself...  | It was called a tugbar when it was below the strings, and a thumb rest when on top. Early players (and some current) would hook their fingers under the tug bar and pluck the strings with their thumb.

I used to ride my "stingray" bike to the store to look at it every damn day for a year..until I got it...always bugged me that it was called the "Marcus" model later..cuz it was MINE!
