Why have thumbrest below strings? Is it not better to screw in them to top side of strings? I have it that way in all my 4 Fender & Squier basses. One P has thumbrest on both sides.

The thumbrest in that position below the strings is period correct to when these incarnations of the basses were originally produced. The concept was that players would anchor their index/middle fingers on the rest, and pluck with their thumbs.

But why call it thumbrest then? Should it be named Finger-rest?

Yes, i know vintage styles, and like them. I am 1948 vintage

Exactly. Especially that number one. If I can find one that is near to 8lbs., it will be mine. Might even swap my '59 CS (blonde/ash) for one. Seriously.

Even though I was trash-talking Fender almost the whole topic about the price, I'm GASsing so much right now. I really want this 74' JB in maple with peraloid inlays.

I want the Precision in Frost Red. Here is a better representation of the color. We had a Jaguar in Frost Red a few months ago. Sweet!

It was called a tugbar when it was below the strings, and a thumb rest when on top. Early players (and some current) would hook their fingers under the tug bar and pluck the strings with their thumb.

Sorry - I didn't read back far enough in the thread. I meant: are the pictures you posted up really things Fender currently offers? Or are they (very well done) Rick-Rolls?

They are real, but not announced by Fender yet. If you look at the URL, the images are linking directly to fender's site

It's funny...looking at the 70s basses...that's EXACTLY what the choices were in the music store back in Buffalo..all on a wall, you couldn't touch them without asking..

I used to ride my "stingray" bike to the store to look at it every damn day for a year..until I got it...always bugged me that it was called the "Marcus" model later..cuz it was MINE!

LPB '64 Jazz.

Because I have a VS '62 P in LPB, and I don't have a Jazz bass.

Since I already own a 62' P, I would have to go with the '58
