Did a little more asking around. Looks like Fender is already taking orders from dealers and the new models will start shipping in March

my guess is that they will have some more vintage blondes. I did always like the 57 blonde though

io have to admit that Timemachine "51" looks kind of awesome though. I wish i could justify/afford one of those timemachine 59s with rosewood...perhaps the little blu squire is a nice 51ish bass?

I'm guessing they will be announced by the end of the month. That's when many retailers seem to be getting them back in stock.

SPOILER ALERT

I have it on good authority:

1958 Precision Bass (maple)
White Blonde
Black
Faded 3-Color Sunburst

1963 Precision Bass (rosewood)
Olympic White
Some kind of red
Faded Sonic Blue
3 Color Sunburst

So, looks like there will be no slab rosewood boars on the AVRI Series.
I'm not saying that there's any big (if there is any) tonal difference between slab x veener boards, but I'm sure that the great majority os P-bass players would rather have a 62 than a 63. Not very smart move from Fender, in my humble opinion.

Was the slab board gone by '63? Maybe it won't be period correct in that regard.

Slab boards were gone by late 62. I remember that one of the reasons that Fender was making 62 reissues instead of 61 or 60, was because they wouldn't have to rename the series just in case at some point they had to start making veener boards instead of slab.

So it's going from a '57 and a '62 to a '58 and a '63???? I'm sorry, but I'm really disappointed. What exactly did a '58 offer that a '57 did not?

That '58 sounds like the '57. Not even a '59 with the rosewood board. I wonder if the blonde will be ash? Maybe no raised poles for the A-string? At least the '63 has some neat new colors.

Keep in mind, this isn't 100% confirmed yet. There might be more than just Ps, and more than just these 2, but this is all I know as of now.

The J's are a bit better. '74 J would still have the 4-bolt neck, right?

'64 J has VVT - and likely matching headstock for the Lake Placid.

The 58' offers a 3-tone-sunburst, while the 57' offers only a 2-tone-sunburst. Meh.

It would be the dumbest move ever if Fender remake the 70s jazz with a 3-bolt neck. The 3-bolt neck was such a deal breaker.
By the way, yeah, it would be awesome if they make the 60s jazzes with matching headstock.

Like the current 75 reissue they have had for sale for the last 10 or so years?

Yep.

I'm not saying the 75 reissue is bad, there's a lot of famous bass players that made their career on 3-bolt necks (like Marcus Miller, Martin Mendez, and others), but, if I'm going to spend some good money on a Fender, I would like it to have a slab rosewood board AND a 4-bolt neck.
That's just me.

While I wish they would have done something with a single coil '51ish P, I'm pretty happy with the offering. If I was in the market I would be looking at the '63 in faded sonic blue

you and me both. I have never had more GAS than I had for the '57 white blonde. I ended up finding an awesome '08 for a song, but if I hadn't I would have bought a 57 for sure.
