On the subject, I really like my Antigua, it is nicely built and plays really well but I am still not 100% sure about the colours, sometimes I dig it and other times not so, it looks kind of anaemic on the wall next to my black MIM P and sunburst P DLX, the maple neck makes it look even paler but does suit it

Still enjoying it and decided to gig it on friday giving my P DLX MIA a well earned rest !
It was superb in every way, we played for 2 and a half hours and it sounded and played perfectly, I am stuck halfway between Jazz and Precision, the Jazz really suited our music, it sounded amazing through my BF super 12 and GB Streamliner 900 rig .
It also drew admiring comments from a few audience members who loved the colour combination .
Happy days

Just a heads up...
Be very careful when removing the screws from the pickguards of the recent Fender Antigua re-issues. When you remove the screws, it seems no matter how careful you are, the paint wants to lift right off of the pickguards-not only in the beveled screwholes, but also up to 1/8" around the perimeter of the screwholes. It just cracks right off.
I recently purchased a new Precision, built in May 2012. It doesn't appear the pickguards were installed while the paint was wet (that would be silly) but the paint does have an adhesion problem on the plastic pickguard in that it is very brittle and eggshell-like in the screwholes and immediately surrounding them. Whatever the cause, no matter how careful I was, on no less than 4 screwholes did the paint lift and crack right off.
I found this out since I've purchased a Warmoth Antigua pickguard that has the correct exposed ply pickguard edges (Fender was too cheap to trim the paint off the edges...probably because the paint chips too easily) and it doesn't have the holes drilled for the thumbrest (which I don't like). The Warmoth pickguard fits perfectly and matches the color. But, Warmoth has discontinued the Antigua finish due to problems with the finish, and I believe it was in direct response to the horrible quality of the first pickguard I received from them, which had countless bubbles, drips, pinholes, fisheyes, and trash in the finish. When I asked about a replacement, I was told I could get a refund and that the finish was being discontinued because of this. I begged and pleaded, and they made me a new pickguard, which is PERFECT. Kudos to Warmoth...too bad for the death of Antigua.
Anyhoo, back to the point. Be careful removing any screws on factory Fender Antigua pickguards. Getting a replacement is gonna be a bit difficult.

I have pulled mine twice on the P, the last time to install Fralins. I have been lucky thus far as I have no paint loss on the PG or even in the holes. And that bass get played regulalry in the line up.
Have you thought about contacting Fender? Seems very unusual to me.

I don't like the factory pickguard and have replaced it with a more period-correct one with an exposed beveled edge. So, I actually have no need for the factory pickguard...since they drilled the damn thing for that big hunk of chinese plastic they call a thumbrest.

I was just explaining to Zoomie why I didn't care to call Fender about the paint issue on mine...the fact that I changed pickguards, and the thumbrest was the main reason why...and those cost-cutting painted edges on the pickguard. However, I prefer the painted edges on the Jazz as it seems to make the pickguard blend with the chrome control panel better.

I had to yank the thumb rest off of the P as it was driving me crazy. Added an ashtray as I tend to get a little too sassy on songs requiring a pick and kept tearing up my right hand.
Beautiful bass ggoat!
