UGH, Gibson, all I want is ONE short scale hollowbody. Is that so much to ask?

yes! You are basically asking for a re-issue of the EB2 / EB2D and this could easily be a "big bang" in terms of sales figures!!!

Better feeling the "breeze of the uncertainty" with a new bet...

Good for Gibson putting this product out. I'm sure it's nice (like the 34" Lakland HB) but for me, why would I want a new 34" hollowbody? If I'm going hollow I would much prefer a 30" and/or vintage.

I'd put a pickguard on it, but aside from that...I don't understand all the hating. You guys must be loads of fun at parties.

no hating: just pointing out that with such a body, a short scale neck would have been better suited. Opinions, you know? And this for better high frets access and for an overall balance of the instruments.

But if you are comfortable with a board only usable up to the 15th fret this bass is simply great. Personally I like it alot, but could not just live with only 15 frets. FWIW, the Casady (that is 34" and probably costs half the price of the 335) is a wonderful instruments, with its aggressive pickup and the deeper lower cutaway... also look at the Lakie... My own 2 c.

Well, you can count me as one of the non-"haters", I don't play past the 15th fret enough for that to be a concern, and balance for me has never been an issue. The only problem here for me would be the likely very high cost.

Just a bit o' snark here.

Look, the Midtown was just released pretty recently as well. I had an EB2c and loved that bass with tapewounds. Would it have killed them to give you the option of some righteous sub dub?

Being selective about a pickguard is no different than scale-length

I like it. my only gripe: if it's anything like the newest Gretsch hollowbody singlecut bass...

http://gretschguitars.com/products/i...tno=2518000512

...it will be clumsy. this is one of the few times where i'd rather have a short scale.

These are new models made in Memphis. I played one at NAMM but didn't have enough time with it to make a conclusion. I will be touring the Memphis shop on thursday this week while we are in Memphis for IBC. I can get a better look then.

I have to say it: this new ES-335 has perked my interest big-time, has me seriously thinking about continuing on with the p-bass I've been playing forever and just throwing down for an exciting new Gibson bass! The "Midtown" model had me going at first. Anyway, rather than spending between 2k and $2500 for another U.S. Fender (albeit one of the 2013 AV's) that have admittedly had me frothing in anticipation for quite a while now (and AVRI's prior to that).

Have long admired a handful of classic/classic style semi-hollow basses and even had the opportunity to spend some time with a few. Most notably a 1967 Hofner and before that a late 90's Jack Cassidy. They both somehow spoke to me in a way that my Fender never really has.... Fender this, Fender that. All I ever think about/read about/hear about when it comes to electric bass is Fender. For like the last 30 years. There's this recurring nightmare where I wake to find the iconic Fender "F" emblazoned on my forehead, and I try furiously but in vain to wash it, rub it and yes even burn it off.

Old arch-top Gibsons have long appealed to me as well, and never give me bad dreams, but the ones I want are too rare and wonderful, out of my reach. Yes a JC would surely do the job, probably get close enough to satisfy me in most ways. But would it make me happy? That's where I have my doubts.

Anyway, back to Fender P's and J's. One can never say enough about them and all their many likenesses. Just wondering what those ES-335's might sell for.

I think Crabby & I need to hit a bar & drown our collective "Where's my Midtown?!" sorrows.

I like the sound of that! I'm so tempted to cancel my order and go for something else but I want to at least play one in person before deciding.

It is just along scale EB-2d. I hope it isn't too expensive. I was GAS free. Now I'm not.

No, it's not. The pickups are different.

in addition on a standard Eb2 you can actually use quite easily all the fretboard, where on the 335 it is limited to the 15/16 fret....
