New Retrovibe basses coming.
Retrovibe will be releasing some new bass designs and sounds like an updated Vantage. The Jazz/Ric blend in my avatar. I love mine and know at least one other TBr has one. The home page has some cool tantalizing pics of portions of each new model. Not sure what the will look like but it's a cool small company. I wish them well. Http://probass.co.uk
Cool... They just released their updated vantage bass. Dual MM style humbuckers rather than humbucker and single coil combo. The dark fingerboard and triangle inlays are an interesting twist. It looks more like a skewed Ric than a Ric/Jazz blend of the original. Kinda cool. My guess is that one of the other basses they are releasing will be stingray inspired. Just a guess from the images on the site, and that they have a Stingray preamp they are selling.
I've an original Vantage as well, in white, and I love it. But these new ones are sorely tempting to splash out on, especially with the red finish :/
If anyone has ever thought of coil tapping their Retrovibe, here is how I set mine up.
These basses are great for it, the massive output of the Pups really is up for tapping.:)
Thanks. Making me look at a second vantage.
Sharp looking basses.
I used the bass at the recent Bushey Blues Festival After Hours Jam, and some footage of it is on the web has appeared, here are some links to it
It handled all the situations with ease and cuts through with no volume issues at all......maybe some overload issues, but that is where the coil tap comes in to reduce the output. :)

I'm gonna fly.
The loom wiring was done by my tech using a heavier gauge wire than used to better insulate the signal, he built and designed the loom to suit the out-put of the pick-ups. The switch comes with a comprehensive set of wiring options and instructions.
The whole job, including insulation, new sockets, tone and volume pots etc, was done for under £100, so for me well worth the investment. :)
I like that. The pickups on the latest Vantage are the same way. 2 MM style humbuckers. The Last model vantage had 1 humbuckers and 1 single coil. I'd like to see if I could get a single coil out of the bridge HB and get a jazzier or rick like sound. Thanks for your work.
On mine i used a Ric to remind me of the sound it gave, on my bass the Rick sound comes from the coil tapped selection in the middle, it gives a good representation of a Ric sound.
I can get a number of "sounds" from it, obviously i get a great Stringray sound on the back HB, and a good P bass sound when pole 3 is tapped only.
I get reasonable Jazz sounds from ether pole 1 or 4 being tapped together or separately.
The front HB gives a good EBO sound and when tapped the front gives a good Hofner type sound, very McCartney/Beatles-esk in a way.
Basically i find it makes my bass very adapable, but keeps a consistant feel, so no changing basses for different situation.
This may be in part to the changing of my tone pots, i am not sure what brand was used, just that they were of a better quality than what was in there.
Maybe the Stinger EQ would be a great addition, but i wanted mine to stay 'passive', but on some amps i find myself using the padded input as the output of the HB is so powerful. :)
Agreed about the output of that humbucker. It can overdrive inputs easily.
Thanks for the info.
The nut width seems to clock in at "somewhere between a Jazz and a Precision" at 1.57", but does anyone have a clue what the fretboard radius is? I'm finding that I prefer a curvier board over an almost-flat one.
Wow, these basses look nice, expected them to be lot more expensive- now I'm tempted!
What's the quality of the instruments like?
I don't know about the latest Vantage basses. The previous version was very close to a Jazz neck all around. The newer versions are slightly more Ric like.. At least the triangle inlays and dark fingerboard. Don't know about the radius on the new ones. I'll find a radius template and let you know what mine is. For what it's worth.
Now that's a cool looking bass!
