New Rickenbacker 4003 price
What is a good price for a new Rickenbacker 4003?
Seems the general price is around $1950, but maybe one can get a better price?
Also, I saw some comments somewhere about not buying from a place such as Musician's Friend, as someone got a new Rick that had some sort of flaws or bad workmanship. Would Rickenbacker really send their faultier models to MF? That doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe that person just had some bad luck. A brand new Rick should be a brand new Rick no matter where you buy it from, no?
I have a great ric from MF , I have had 2 great rics from them and one mediocre one with issues. My current one is mapleglo and I paid $1080 shipped, but your not going to get one that low. They will how ever take a minimum of 15% off the asking price.
i don't think it is the case of someone sending bad models to one store over another. i just think if you make that many basses, eventually someone will get a clunker! that said, i don't have much experience with rics, although i wish i did! good luck, hope you snag a killer fiddle!
Regardless of the price they are both unique and wonderful . There are those that feel differently , but I do hope you will appreciate them for what they are .
( I love them )
The cheapest I've ever seen ricks is on the classifieds here. Anywhere else will take a 6 year old 4003 and charge you 1800 for it. At least where I live they do.
Guitar Showcase here in San Jose, CA, sells new 4003's for $1,700. Somewhere in that ballpark is what you should look for.
Wildwood guitars sell them for about $1500 shipped and will set it up for you. They also have high resolution pics of every bass in stock on their website. Last time I checked they had several jetglos in stock.
... and some folks realize they become "vintage " the second after you open the shipping box !
I paid $850.00 for mine. I had Pat at A1 music order it for me new from the factory.
Purchased one from Wildwood for $1505 new earlier this year
Absolutely beautiful, great set up and quick shipping.
Alas, it was not for me and I sold it for the same price.
But I cannot say enough about Wildwood.
I simply don't understand why you see so many used non-vintage Ricks for sale at a asking price more than what a new one sells for....and why anyone would pay more for a usd one than a new one is beyond me.
I have had great luck with MF on several recent purchases but I never considered buying a new Ric from MF.... There are several threads about poor quality Ricks from them....it appears they never check them out before they ship them
I would try Wildwood or POTR
My two cents!
Never pay more than $1600 for a new Rick ...
The last time I bought a new Rick I double dipped in the sales that Musician's Friend was doing. They had a sale on midnight blue Ricks, They sold all of them so they substituted Jetglo instead and I also used their 15% off sale for that day. I got a brand spanking new Jetglo 4003 for a little over $1000. I sold it 6 months later for $1500.
