They're made by Scott and the guys at Birdsong. Trust me, that's all you need to know. Those guys are artisans.

By the way, a while back Randy Dritz (the "D" in S.D.Curlee) visited Birdsong and cut some bodies himself, for a special hand-signed and numbered edition. I posted some pics at the time.

I had a couple of them back in the late 70's? maybe early 80's.

Nothing fancy that I can recall, pretty basic actually, but they really punch through in a band setting. Mine were just like this one: http://www.sdcurleeusa.com/

+1 to that. Scott's a consumate professional, talented luthier and a very nice guy. The new Curlees must be awesome basses.

Yup. BTW, that is THE Randy Dritz in my previous post. Head designer of the original S.D.Curlee.

BTW, Scott is doing something really cool, IMO. He's collected a number of "leftovers" from the original SDCurlee factory and offering "NOS" parts as well as refinish/rebuilds of old basses, plus a few "heritage builds":

Quote:
What we WILL be doing is building what we've decided to call "Heritage" builds. Careful completion of a limited number of old unfinished basses and guitars from the original SD Curlee shop using a mix of NOS and new parts will happen and these will be done to our current boutique levels of attention to detail and setup (something the originals unfortunately never had). We'll offer them in inventory with full description and historical notes, they'll each come with random artifacts from the old Matteson, IL workshop, and will be priced very reasonably - somewhere between what an old worn "original" USA can be found for and what our new hand mades go for.
How cool is that?

I can feel the GAS building up...
