I had the same problem deciding on front rout vs. rear rout and ended up doing the standard front rout using the standard chrome control plate - now I'm not sure if I want to use a pickguard or not. Warmoth does not currently make a p/g for a Dinky 5, so I'll have to modify the standard Dinky J p/g to fit - if I use it at all. I might go no p/g for the Jaco look. |

In fact, I'm having this builder do some minor milling on the body when I get it. I'm going with the neck washers to eliminate the neck plate and I don't have the right tools or skills to pull it off - and I would hate to screw up the body! Once he does that, I can send the body and neck to Marty Bell for paint! |

Spraying rig.
First coat of Deft Sanding Sealer
Second coat, it is starting to turn into that ugly brown color (IMO of course) that alder takes when a clear finish is sprayed on. And the 2 pieces are taking the finish differently on this body.
After that the weather turned and it started getting cloudy, then thundering storms. The sealer did raise a lot of grain, and needs to be knocked down smooth. Will sand this down with Abralon 240. Tomorrow I will start on the 2 coats of nitro white primer if the weather allows it |

BTW, I dig the color choice for the body. This one will look killer when it's all together. |

| | | | OP: Are you going to use lightweight tuners? I'm afraid the bass will neckdive because Warmoth necks usually are heavy and that body is really light.

It's my 3rd Warmoth bass and none of them neckdived, no matter the weight of the body. Of course, all the necks were your plain maple and rosewood variety, I have not tried exotics.
Neck dive seems to be the word spread here on TB regarding Warmoth, but I have never experienced it
Think about it, the steel bars which are most of the weight complain run the length of the neck (almost) so the weight is distributed evenly. It may hang heavier but no neck dive. I only get neck-dive if I use those awfully heavy stock Fender Schallers (I'm glad they realized that after some 50 years and switched to lighter Hipshots later)
but thanks for your concern, I appreciate it...

they work great, although I have never heard the brand before (Hosco, made in Japan) anybody use them?
I am pretty excited, I just touched up the nuts of my 2 Jazzes, and it was a breeze with nut files, no more needle files, sandpaper wrapped around credit cards and such. The file set was pricey but the ease of use is priceless |

BTW, the figuring on the neck is really eye catching. I've said it before, but I'm guessing this is going to look absolutely killer when together. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
