I had to ask them - emailed them actually. I did not want to build the typical Deluxe 5, so I'm doing the Dinky 5 now! Of course it'll cost ya - I think it's a $100 upcharge to route the Dinky J body for the Deluxe 5 neck.

I had the same problem deciding on front rout vs. rear rout and ended up doing the standard front rout using the standard chrome control plate - now I'm not sure if I want to use a pickguard or not. Warmoth does not currently make a p/g for a Dinky 5, so I'll have to modify the standard Dinky J p/g to fit - if I use it at all. I might go no p/g for the Jaco look.

I'm using the regular J pickguard with the P rout. The horn does not completely follow the pointed part of the pickguard but you can't really tell. For you, you will need to enlarge the neck cutout though

True - if I can't do it, I have a local custom builder who can. In fact, I'm having this builder do some minor milling on the body when I get it. I'm going with the neck washers to eliminate the neck plate and I don't have the right tools or skills to pull it off - and I would hate to screw up the body! Once he does that, I can send the body and neck to Marty Bell for paint!

Shipped the neck this morning to Marty Bell. Since I was home and the weather was nice I decided to start on the body's finish.

Spraying rig.

First coat of Deft Sanding Sealer

Second coat, it is starting to turn into that ugly brown color (IMO of course) that alder takes when a clear finish is sprayed on. And the 2 pieces are taking the finish differently on this body.

After that the weather turned and it started getting cloudy, then thundering storms. The sealer did raise a lot of grain, and needs to be knocked down smooth. Will sand this down with Abralon 240. Tomorrow I will start on the 2 coats of nitro white primer if the weather allows it

The neck looks like it's covered in liquid glass! That's some really nice work.

BTW, I dig the color choice for the body. This one will look killer when it's all together.

I am using an Electrosocket jack and since the lip was sitting on the top of the body, I had to temporarily fill the output jack hole with a dowel, find the center and then use a 1" Forstner bit to recess the Electrosocket. Then the screw holes in the Electrosocket developed a crack. Word to the wise: buy a genuine Electrosocket and not a cheap Ebay knockoff. I have another coming from Stewmac.

Also primed the body this week-end with Reranch white primer, talk about high contents, my finger was sore from pressing on the nozzle. It sprays nice and flat though

OP: Are you going to use lightweight tuners? I'm afraid the bass will neckdive because Warmoth necks usually are heavy and that body is really light.

using Hipshot Ultralites, have not found a reason to use anything else, even on my Fenders, would love to try Res-O-Lites but they are pricey.
It's my 3rd Warmoth bass and none of them neckdived, no matter the weight of the body. Of course, all the necks were your plain maple and rosewood variety, I have not tried exotics.

Neck dive seems to be the word spread here on TB regarding Warmoth, but I have never experienced it
Think about it, the steel bars which are most of the weight complain run the length of the neck (almost) so the weight is distributed evenly. It may hang heavier but no neck dive. I only get neck-dive if I use those awfully heavy stock Fender Schallers (I'm glad they realized that after some 50 years and switched to lighter Hipshots later)

but thanks for your concern, I appreciate it...

Also got this in the mail today:

they work great, although I have never heard the brand before (Hosco, made in Japan) anybody use them?

I am pretty excited, I just touched up the nuts of my 2 Jazzes, and it was a breeze with nut files, no more needle files, sandpaper wrapped around credit cards and such. The file set was pricey but the ease of use is priceless

The neck came out great. Just smooooth as glass. Well worth the trip to Mr. Bell, I see.

BTW, the figuring on the neck is really eye catching. I've said it before, but I'm guessing this is going to look absolutely killer when together.
