I'll second the Bluesman Vintage.
Our own JohnK does beautiful work too!

If you spent any time playing a Mike Lull, you'd get it

I would also highly recommend talking to Pat Wilkins about building you one. Some of his basses offer period-correct wood, so you could get a '60's P bass' built from wood of that era. He also winds his own pickups. I have one in my P5 and it is just a killer.

His paint work/finishes are second-to-none (just ask all the high-end builders that send their basses to him for paint), and he's also a super nice guy...

Sandberg VM - one of the nicest basses I've played, and I'd dare say my next bass.

What is it about Fender Ps that you don't like? it might help to narrow down the suggestions.

Lots of great P-Bass's that are not Fenders.

Blueman Vintage
Mike Lull
AC-Hippie
Sadowsky

All of these have their own vibe, but all are outstanding instruments.
