I can see the spend for something set neck or neck through, active electronics, custom made, etc. But a p-bass clone? I don't get it... | If you spent any time playing a Mike Lull, you'd get it

I would also highly recommend talking to Pat Wilkins about building you one. Some of his basses offer period-correct wood, so you could get a '60's P bass' built from wood of that era. He also winds his own pickups. I have one in my P5 and it is just a killer.
His paint work/finishes are second-to-none (just ask all the high-end builders that send their basses to him for paint), and he's also a super nice guy... http://wilkinsguitars.com/65_special_p.htm

Blueman Vintage
Mike Lull
AC-Hippie
Sadowsky
All of these have their own vibe, but all are outstanding instruments.
