Odd vintage Fretless Fender for sale - what is this?
Is this some sort of hybrid model, a fake or a seller not seeing the P vs J contradiction in his bass? Seller claims it is from the early 80s and it sure looks period correct - but what is with the "Precision" vs "Jazz" thing which is not commented upon in the ad?

By the way, the asking price is pretty close to that of a new Fender Select bass...

Could be a Fender Jazz body but I'm not familiar with it. I dare say you can get flame maple tops for your jazz if you order it! However, the neck is a de-fretted Precision neck, which has a wider nut width. You can see it's de-fretted as the position markers are where they would be for a fretted bass.

1500 is quite a lot for such a bastard bass IMHO.

Not sure how they have come to that figure. Have you played it?

Unless it plays great and sounds better, run away. Looks like a de-fretted Precision neck on a custom body with aftermarket electronics. Were it mine, I wouldn't even call it a Fender at this point, it's just a custom bass...

Thanks, Davo-London! :)
Yeah, I see the (seemingly) obvious stuff, but I am curious if this is a "hack job", some limited run or an actual "White elephant" (where a TB expert can tell us only eleven were made for the NAMM in 1983, and Mo Foster was given one of them as a gift...) :D

The price seems quite steep, and no, I have not played it.
If it was half the price, I would be interested.

Thanks, tekdiver!
Yeah, pretty much what I thought...

I think there may have been some Jazz bodies made like that in small numbers (not to say this is one of them, but they've done something similar). Definitely not the neck it left the factory with.

Is it a Victor Bailey body?
