I feel I'm a decent player, can certainly play circles around your average bassist, but a guy who smashes a Warwick Corvette Kurt Cobain style after 2 years of playing.... Where do I sign up?

I'm in. The $10k mark is fast approaching and I'm really not that great.

Is there a threshold or is it up to the individual to decide their if their ratio of mediocrity to dollars spent on equipment is worthy?

I think you'll know if you belong or not. There will be a process to vote people out if they prove to be worthy of their equipment.

I don't even want to reveal the dollar amount, but after an Alembic Series I, a Modulus Q6, a David King fretless 5, and two 67 Guild Starfires, a '56 Gibson ES140T among others and numerous amps, effects, speakers, etc. rest assured that it far outstrips my talent. Luckily people seem to like my playing enough to justify having it all to bring to gigs. The great thing is that it's all about fun!

I do remember hearing through the grapevine back when I was 18 (in 1979) that someone thought my gear was better than me, and at that point I only had a Gibson EB2D, a Fender Showman and some weird home made speaker, so that was a much lower bar.

Oh YOU mean I WON'T get the gig for showing up with a nice sunburst hollow body and a bitchin strap??

Heh... Just kidding. I knew that.

Well hell... I'm pretty good on at least one song. And I've got 5 basses to choose from.

Nice to see so many of you other fellers coming out of the woodwork! Alright, I'm with you fellers. So what's MY number?

This thread made me take a quick inventory of my gear and I found that I am a crappy bassist AND have crappy gear . Now I'm depressed. May I should start a club for that....

We have a club for that if you'd like a number. We might have to have meetings and interventions.
