Spray painted the body semi gloss black and polished/sanded it to give it a used feel.
Not a used "look". I did not sand it back to the bare wood. Just a subtle thing
Further I replaced the 2-saddle bridge by a 4-saddle one for more accurate intonation.

From newby to newby: Welcome to the club!

As I told You some pages before, I like the job You did on Your bass. Nice!

Uwe

Thanks Uwe and IPA for your kind words on my Sting signature. Well, it now is only recognizable as such through the neck inlay.
To be honest I did not like the burst on the bass; The changeover from the black on the sides to the brown in the middle was to abrupt for my liking.
Neither did I like the enormous piece of white plastic that is the pick guard. And even totally unnessecary on the upper horn of the body.
As a designer I cannot let issues like that go by. I then saw the Fender CS Cabronita bass and was truly inspired!
As one might detect from the outcome of my mods.

I was inspired.

Still gonna throw some tolex over the Garolite, but I dig it (except for the empty screw holes). It'll give a cool second look.

Now thαt's a pretty bass! A real improvement!
We should start a movement. Fender even might hook up!

And here's the pickguard covered in Mesa style tolex.

Not sure if the tolex will react with the nitro, but we're about to find out!!

Wow, looking at this pic, you can really see the yellowing starting.

I hopefully will be able to join this club in a couple days. I am just getting into the bass world, and asked for a Mexican P bass for Christmas! I did not specify color or age, but I Know that I will love it if it comes through. I will be sure to post bragging pictures if I get it! It would be a dream come true if it was Midnight blue, Lake Placid Blue, Surf Green, Fiesta Red, or Foam Green. I would die for any of those colors.

Mmmm..., I prefer the bare plastic pg. To me the tolex ads a kind of bling that exceeds the raw simplicity of the p-bass.
Just my two cents of course...

I'm on the fence. This is the one bass I've ever owned that I've had absolutely zero desire to mod. I may throw the smaller guard on from time to time just to be different, but I love everything about this bass, even the original guard.

I like that Fender went with a one-ply back guard on the 60th. I've tried a few different options and plain black just looks best.

I've got enough of the Garolite left to make a full sized guard for her, but it wouldn't be much different than the original.

The 60th Anniversary P really is perfect in just about every way. As a P-bass player, this one just doesn't need anything.

I'm with you on this. I definitely like the full pg on your bass.
As I do on the '51 re-issue. Perhaps it has to do with the colors:
Slightly see through vs black pg... I don't know, it's a feeling.

I think you're right. The Blonde finish just doesn't have the same look as the solid black with the smaller guard.

My other P is also Butterscotch, but not as light. Maybe it'll look better.

It's not a Fender. Doesn't belong in this thread, but there's a crapload of pics of it all over Talkbass. I swapped the 2-saddle bridge for a 4-saddle threaded bridge, added bridge and pickup covers, and tolexed the guard.

Aw, screw it. Here it is:

I also want to swap the pots for higher quality ones, but it currently has miniature pots and the route would need to be enlarged.
