LuckyPants lighten up you are playing fine. Remember one thing: There will always be someone a little bit better than you and someone not as good as you. Play the bass and enjoy what you are doing. Oh by the way, really nice basses.

+1. Never measure your playing by the playing of others. Is your music making you happy? That's all that matters. Keep practicing and just enjoy yourself. The chops will come with practice.

Thanks! The '75 has become my #1 bass, I love playing it. And that picture shows about 50% of my record collection, collecting and listening to vinyl is one of my hobbies.

So much beautiful P-Basses in this thread! I love mine so much, but there are lots of fine basses shown here like refinished Basses, new and old ones.

So I have to congratulate all the owners of one of those fine basses.

+1000!!! I have my own 72, but I am living vicariously thru everyone else's basses on this page. If the cops ever raid my house and take my computer, they will only find my P and J bass "porn" on this hard drive!!

This has been discussed many times. If it says "Jazz Bass" it doesn't count. If it's an "A" neck and says "Precision Bass" that's fine. A Jazz Bass neck on a Precision Bass is considered a parts bass.

Ok, I use a 72 P, playing through a Sans Amp RBI21 into a QSC power amp (can't remember the model number, but it is about 12 years old). Ernie Ball Super Slinky 105's theough an Avatar B4X10 and a homemade 2X15 with Eminence speakers

The EQ on the Sans Amp are like dials , not faders, so I have them:
low - 12:00
mids - 9:00
highs - 1:00

I almost always pull down my mids because all 3 of my basses speak very brightly. I also have an 80 MIM Jazz and an 86 Charvel 3B

I never use a pick and my main influences are Steve Harris and Geddy Lee so not too much slapping and that kind of stuff - though I am not opposed to it, it has just never fit the style of music my band plays.

The faders on my Peavey Tour 700 look like a flattened rainbow with the lows starting a couple of clicks above middle detent (horizon), the mids rising a few notches higher, and the highs falling down to the horizon; contour, bass, and treble controls all around 2 o'clock. 2003 P bass w/ GHS Boomers (sound really good on this bass), bass tone control wide open, bass volume control wide open, Tour 700 amp, Dietz 15" cab. Tone, punch, chunk, and bottom. Insane when paired with another Dietz 15".

I have been playing "other" basses lately, including a recent gig, but now I am putting my '74 (see page 1 of this thread) back into action. We are going to do more hard/heavy stuff this spring, and I think I will need the classic tone for that. I will keep you all updated.
