That is a great color, but it's actually Metallic Red. It has super tiny flecs of metal (not to be confused with Metalflake which has large flakes of metal) mixed in for that effect. True Candy Apple Red (or Kandy Red) has a base coat of gold colored paint with one or more top coats of translucent red. A variation uses a silver base coat. All are beautiful colors. .

It had a terrible farting nose when played loud, I am thinking this is why they sold it. All I did was tighten up the loose tone pot. I took most of the bow out of the neck and replaced the strings after cleaning it really well.
I have never done a setup before but it did not seem that difficult. I like low action so i measured about a nickle between the strings and the 14th fret. I still get a little buz when playing high so it is a work in progress.
Put some medium flat wounds on it, those are taking some getting used to. Think I should have gone with light, but time will tell. Never used flat wounds before.
At the end of the day I am pretty happy. MAy still take it to get professionally set up.

that hot rod paint job dose look killer.but over the paint job,I'm most glad that it feels plays & sounds incredible, it's a win win all around as I plan to keep this one.I didn't think I find another bass I like as much as my jazz but I have, any other bass in the future will be icing on the cake!!!

| | | | Homecoming I've returned to playing bass after a THIRTY YEAR hiatus. The last band I was in was a funk band in the seventies with nine members. We killed. I played a borrowed Precision. For two entire college school years. We were a busy band.
Fast forward to last week. I have several basses I like, especially the Squier VM Jazz. I'm regaining proficiency. Been at it 1.5 years. Trying to get used to the Jazz, and two other basses.
Then I fell in love with a P on craigslist. She's a beauty. I knew this was a quality bass, and an exceptional example, but I was not ready for the Deja Vu. My hands already know how to play this bass. It's uncanny. I'm just REALLY enjoying this homecoming.
BTW, there are a number of neck profiles on Precisions. One is fat, like a baseball bat. Another is like a Jazz. The one on this bass, and the one I played so many years ago, is thin. Not narrow like a Jazz, but thinner between the back of the neck and the strings. I am pretty stoked!
Oops. Pics would not load. It's bedtime. The bass is three-color sunburst, white pickguard (likely to turn tort) and rosewood fretboard. She's a doll! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
