When I got this '77 from a little music store in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in early '78, it already had the Badass bridge with the custom trim on it. It's got sustain 'till the cows come home (as we in Iowa were prone to say), great tone and playability. And she's a looker!

Body CIJ, neck, tuners, pickguard, strap buttons MIJ,
electronics from a 50´s classic MIM, neckplate aftermarket
big F Fender and the pickup is a 1976 original.
How´s that for a partsbass?
It´s sweet! |

When I bought it it was covered in much and filth but apparently had been sitting filthy in the case for like 20+ years. I think the much acted as a protective layer, because she is in amazing shape. The neck is mint and the body has hardly anything out of place on it. Since posting I've bought an original HSC from the 70', pickup and bridge covers off of a '75, and a 70's original bridge and a thumb rest. Once I get all the parts I'll post pics of her in her original glory! |

This week as been special for me...
After playing jazz basses exclusively for the past 10 years, a friend let me borrow is p-bass and it made me remember the first bass which was an ibanez p-bass copy..
At the same time it made me realize that p-bass really easily cut through compare to a jazz.
The following day i went to the local music store to order a Squier matt freeman precision bass. I called the store back a few hours later to put the order on hold...
I'm not sure because money is tight but i'm thinking about ordering a fender classic 70 precision bass instead...
Anyone here tried both?
Thanks for your help guys, just can't wait to join the club!!!

I absolutely want a neck with 7,25'' or 9'5'' radius nothing flatter but my first choice is 7,25''
I don't want any neck wider than 1,65''
and
i really prefer vintage size frets
Even if fender as tons of precision bass, only the matt freeman and the classic 70's fit all these specifications....

I had the chance to try both in a store but couldn't really here a difference at showroom floor volume.... | All of my P-basses have maple fretboards, and I really don't notice any difference in a gigging situation. Maybe at home if you A/B them against a rosewood board, but in a band mix you'll never hear a difference. Plus there's things like strings that make a difference as well as EQ.
Buy based on aesthetics. |

Can I get a number?

I had the chance to try both in a store but couldn't really here a difference at showroom floor volume.... | I also own a maple necked P-bass, and a rosewood J bass. I feel like the rosewood neck has a warmer sound, and definitely has a bit of a different feel, but Rip is right, you will never hear the difference at a gig. I feel like when I play the P-bass unplugged, I am getting a brighter string sound reflection than the J bass unplugged. Some of it might have to do with the fact that the maple neck is lacquered, and the rosewood neck is not...
