Funky - regarding the Gravity 8, you're probably about right with the 100 made. They certainly didn't make it for long.

Hi all,

I have a Fernandes the revival precision. I believe it is from 1983. The pickguard is not original and I have replaced the original electronics.

After looking through the catalogues, I believe this is a MB-65 from 1991.

that looks like it might be an FRB-95 with a couple replaced tuners and replaced knobs. The headstock says MIJ and the body looks like ash.

Here's my Fernandes. It's an RJB 380. I picked it up at a thrift store in Japan. I don't think it's anything special, but it looks and sounds okay. It's getting new strings and a new pickguard soon. I'm thinking about putting pickup covers on it too. Can I get a number?

^^^

Maybe it's "something" and maybe it's not, but picking it up at a thrift store in Japan is really cool.

redsfan73 is #41.

And I am still quick.

I just bought a Fernandes Atlas and waiting for it to come in. I will post a pic when it comes in. Does anyone here know how to interpret the Fernandes Serial numbers to tell me if this is an older Atlas or and Atlas X series? Is it made in Japan or China and what year was it made?
The serial number is:
F605011287
Any help greatly appreciated

not sure if the serial # can tell where the bass was made. I read that Fernandes was usually very messy and is not easy to get accurate info on their products.
Japan made models in the past at least always got a "made in Japan" stamped, most of the times on the neck plate as far as I could see around.
Another hint on where it was made would be the price tag. Japan made models are not cheap.

Thanks Setebos. Yeah true about the price but I have also found some great made in Japan Ibanez bass and guitars for dirt cheap over the years though I guess that is harder to find with Fernandes stuff. I guess in the end the model is based on the old model anyway and will be fine with me. I just really wanted a passive musicman style bass from a decent company and even the youtube of the newwer versions of the Atlas sounded great and were positive when commenting on fit and finish.

Some have the MIJ marking on the headstock, and I mentioned in an earlier post that mine was sold to me as an Atlas 4x but it is MIJ and actually an FSB-40. There are links elsewhere in this thread to Fernandes' catalogs so if you spend some time digging around hopefully you can verify the model.
