Fernandes Nomad

So does this club have room for a "redheaded stepchild?" The rest of you have good looking Fernandes Bases, and all I have is this...

Very nice! It has a self-contained amp, right? Or is that something besides a speaker? What does it use for a pickup?

It has a piezo in the bridge, and yes that's a built in speaker. It's loud enough to to play with acoustic guitars, banjo and a mandolin. It's a very short scale, and it easily fits in the overhead on an airplane.

Just got this Fernandes Atlas on Friday. It is a not, MIJ but it is still sweet. Great neck, body, no flimsy feeling knobs or anything like that, and great tone. Just love it.

#44 goes to Samsquanch1972.

Nice color. Something you don't see every day.

Anyone know if the FSB musicman style pickups that Fernandes uses is alnico or ceramic?

Just in case anyone is interested, a Fernandes g****r showed up on CL here in Tennessee, link is:

No relationship or interest, just passing it along.

I just stumbled upon this thread....awesome!! I have an older Fernandes JEB-2 bass that i always loved playing but the pickups went microphonic on me. I picked up some EMG JVX pickups which after hearing some Youtube clip demos i thought they would be a nice choice for some bass. I was wondering if any one has had any success putting EMG's in this bass (or similar) since the EMG's do require a 9V battery? Thanks!

Sometimes there is room in the control cavity for the battery, if you're careful with placement.

The battery case is metal so you don't want it contacting anything. I make a little case out of foam, slide the battery inside. It keeps it from moving around and hitting anything it shouldn't. Other stuff would probably work too.

There wouldn't be any way to turn it off unless you also changed the jack, or changed a pot to one with a push/pull switch on it.

We're going to need a picture before you can get a number... and of course, you *do* want a number.

Thanks ldervish, well i have since had the pickups installed and my guitar tech put the battery in under the pick guard. Not very convenient but cost much less money then having him route a battery compartment so that is what i opted for. He couldn't fit it in under the volume and tone controls.

They sound awesome by the way! Very warm and punchy! Almost gave up on this bass but i loved the way the neck felt and gave the EMG JVXs a try. Glad i did!

Good for you. The battery shouldn't need changing very often so the inconvenience is minimal. My friend put an EMG active pup into a Peavey bass and loves it too, don't know what model pup. Same reason, loved the neck but lousy OEM pup.

#45 to foxxiroxx.

You get extra credit for having you in the photo. That and $4 will get you a latte at Starbucks.

Awesome! Thanks! Ah yes, not the best pic of me, but it is one of the best pics I have of the bass.

I took some close ups yesterday though because I put neon strings on it. :-)

And now you were going to give me a latte? By reaching through the computer screen I think you said. jk
