Cool bass at a cool price!

Thanks Chef,

I fixed it.

I would have wanted one, but I thought they were too expensive. The local shop dropped it into my price range (by one dollar $1,999)

So I got a Jupiter for what you could pay for a Thunder Jet.

Great bass at a great price.

BP.

I don't need a number, because I no longer own this beautiful bass. But I thought it would be worth sharing since I didn't see another one in this thread.

I am in the market for a new bass as the one in the pic has been destroyed. I played a 5123B about a week ago and fell in love. After drooling over this thread I am going back this weekend to get it.

There are usually 2202s available on Ebay. A little watching should help you find one.

I was able to buy two new Gretsch (in a short time) :
_ G6136LSB White Falcon.
_ G6119B Broadkaster.

They join my Gretsch's family - G6073B Electrotone and G6128B Thunder Jet-.
Each of them have different strings ( Labella ) :
Nylon strings on the Electrotone.
Flat on the Broadkaster.
Semi-flat on the Thunder Jet.
Roundwound on the White Falcon.

I am a VERY happy man.

I believe you! Please share some photos with us!

I also believe that you are a happy man with substantially less $ in the bank. But when you're adding Gretsch instruments, that's a good trade to make.

Makes me want to go buy another one

A beautiful family.

I actually wanted a Thunder Jet when I got my Billy Bo Jupiter but it was not available at the time. I love the Billy Bo, but some day I will have a Thunder Jet.

Some day in my dreams I'll own a White Falcon.

Fantastic collection.

Here is my new one. My wife bought it for me for Christmas!

They are both keepers.

OK, sign me up.

GC Electromatic, pictured with my Rancher Western and my 5120 Brian Setzer Hot Rod. My go-to bass for unplugged practice (other than my upright), and the short scale is great for stuff like a lot of Zeppelin songs where the bass dittos the guitar line. (Yes, I have a think for Gretsch, also have a Gretsch drumkit)

I am surprised to see that no one has posted any pictures of the new G5123B that recently came out with the walnut color finish. If you've got one I'd sure love to see some non-stock photos.

Also, did the guy handing out numbers disappear?

Salut B-Boom,

Since you have the Electrotone, with TV Jones Pick-up, and Broadkaster, with Filter Tron, I would be interested to know what you think about how do pups compare with each other?
Are TV Jones hotter? Do they sound much different?

Thx !

The only thought of which I am sure: T.V Jones pickups is more powerful ( level output )
It's difficult to compare the tone of these pickups, because the real f-holes of the Broadkaster falsify the data : The basses frequencies have a little more presence, the tone is little more round, but I don't know if the difference of tone is due to the lutherie or to the Filter Tron pickups. Sorry.

There is a 1963 Gretsch 6070 on eBay (no affiliation) that looks in excellent original condition, and the starting price ($1,300) is low enough.

Also has the original leather gig bag - important since this bass will not fit in any other gig bag you can find.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Gret...item4d0865f25f

Believe me, the new ones are nothing like the vintage MIA Gretsches.

If I didn't already own one (a '64), I'd be all over this one like white on rice.

Certainly a little bit of both ...
Thx for taking the time !
Nice collection by the way.

Just noticed that it has a 21st fret, unlike mine... probably a mod, it looks like the extra fret is set slightly flat.

Here is mine to compare

My newest axe

I am totally in love with my new Gretsch G5123b Hollowbody. It is the shizzles! The sound is so smooth and nice. I'm getting amazing tone out of it and it is a sexy beast too.
