Here's that Randy Jackson bass solo on the RS824 (924?) Roadster mentioned earlier. My version of this bass is the TR colored RS924. The active preamp has never worked on mine. I bet those hot hot hot Dimarzio style pickups, the hottest I've ever played, eventually burned it up!

No wonder I like his sig bass amp so much!

You can also hear the use of neck pickup solo sound very clearly; you can even see that the big cream colored switch is thrown to neck position. I only ever use that to get a D6 Clavinet tone when messing around with the bass line to "I Wish," but this gives me ideas for ripping an overdriven solo. Now all I need is a fusion band to play with!

The solo is in the second tune, "Egocentric Molecules" (get it? a tune to solo on...) but the first, Mirage, is really a great listen.

One last image: the gorgeous wood on my blazer. Set off so nicely by the brass hardware in the shot a few posts above this one.

Hi folks, are we still giving out numbers?
I bought this brand-new in Brisbane in 1983, can't think of any reason to part!

People shouldn't start clubs unless they are going to keep on it for the rest of their natural lives ... I think it ended on #5.

Someone else can take over if they want.

My baby's twin!...Not sure if mine was an 83, probably an 82? Does anyone have a dating chart with serial numbers?

The serial #s start with their year of manufacture, at least with the basses I have from '81-'85. I think the same is true running back to 77 or earlier.

I have a red '82. Got it off eBay for $67 about 3 years ago. Had no idea what it was, but for $67, how could I not?

Thought it was merely OK until, on a whim, I swapped out the chunky brass bridge for a cheapo stamped P-Bass bridge -- holy moley, what a difference! Woke it right up. Now it's the best recording bass I've ever owned.

When I developed a nickel allergy and had to decide which of my instruments would get a crazy-expensive stainless steel fret job, the Blazer was first in line.

I might try that bridge swap -- did the holes line up? Which one did you get?

Don't remember if the holes lined up, but it doesn't matter because the saddles didn't -- I seem to recall the new holes had to be a little further back. I just bought whatever p-bass bridge they had hanging on the wall at GC. Not a vintage-y type with screw-thread saddles, the more modern smooth-cylinder kind.

This is one of mine. 1986 RB650. I don't need a number. Looks like the OP Lownered the thread anyway.

This is a solid 8.5 out of 10. Even has the RB650 sticker still on the back of the headstock. I almost sold it to a TBer a year ago, but I'm lucky enough to still have her. Since this bass doesn't have the coveted Heart tuning machines, I'm thinking it might be a candidate for black hardware. Hmmm. Black pickguard screws, black output jack and straplocks. Black Ultralites and a Hipshot bridge... probably cost more than what i paid for the whole bass.

I've had it for about 6 years. I like it so much i just picked up a white 1984 RB650. Maybe ill shoot some pics of it today, but they will have to be indoor photos :/

My first bass, originally sunburst but got a refin and a new pickguard last year. Usually stored in my closet but I take it out now and then, just to give it some daylight. Don’t care much for the sound but love the neck.

Wow! Nice basses!

I never "got" Ibanez because I wasn't crazy about their modern offerings. However, after playing some Ibanez instruments prior to 1986, I see what the fuss is all about. One day I'll have a vintage Blazer, Roadstar, Roadster or Musician - the natural finish Blazers/Roadstars are to die for.

The only quibble I really have with mine is the EQ point of the tone control. I have considered putting in a different doodad (capacitor/resistor whatever it is) and putting the roll off to a more useful sonic placement.

If I ever come across a really beat up Blazer for cheap I'll try a bridge swap on it as described above to see what that does.

Well, personally I like the roaring thunder from a thunderbird, so it’s just not my style. Don’t get me wrong, not saying it’s bad it’s just not me :-)

NBD!!!
This is the third Roadstar I have owned. Had the pbass and the musicman style 80s Roadstars. But wanted a PJ and love the white and black headstock.
