shorter screws at Lowes.

How does the B string feel? Sloppy or not?

Just about any new bass needs a proper setup to be 100% - it is rather rare for the nut slots to be cut deep enough for instance. It is rather bizarre that all these Mikros need a couple intonation screws to be shorted though - both of mine did for sure!
I already owned a Dremel tool so cutting them only took a couple minutes.

Wes as for the purple sparkle paint job I am going to get a quote from a local guitar shop...

I'm not a Primus listener, but since your 7 year old is picking it up, what Primus song is that? Did she look up a tab on it or did she pick it up by ear (please say tab)? Quote:

The Primus song she wants her band to play is "Too many puppies". That song will be hard for her because she will have to stretch across three frets to play it, I am thinking about experimenting with a cappo on the fifth fret to make it easier for her to play. As for the purple paint I called a local custom guitar shop and they said $300 with a pro setup, I think it will have to wait.

That or there is no quality control to speak of. | I had the same problem with my 6 string Mikro guitar. The entire bridge needed to be moved. I'm pretty sure that's the reason I got it cheap (it was returned by another customer).

| | Registered User | | | | | Switched to D'Addario Chromes ECB81S When I first got my Mikro I put on a set of Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Bass flat wound strings. I tried to like them but never could. The strings seemed like they came from different sets.
First thing I did at 3:00 am Jan. 01,2013 was to put on a set D'Addario ECB81S short scale Chromes. What a difference in playability and sound. All the strings have the same sound texture with balanced highs and lows. Any string to string tonal changes are minimal, and to be expected. The strings are physically just "there", unobtrusive, and don't fight my left hand.
No matter what stringed instrument I have played, D'Addario strings seemed to be the perfect choice.

| | | | I love the Chromes on my Mikro. Great sounding, easy to play, and I'm sure they'll last forever.
Now if only D'Addario made a 5-string SS set...

| | | | ...and this is why.
Haven't played her yet; it was über cold outside today and I'm letting everything settle before doing the setup and tuning. Feels very nice though; typical Ibanez fit and finish, good balance - and of course the slimmest 5-string neck I'm likely to ever be able to afford.
Interestingly, made in June 2012. The local chain said they've had them on order for months but haven't seen one yet. I got mine delivered next day ground from Sweetwater for the same price - and I know these people keep their promises.
Can't wait to practice on it tonight after a bit.

| | | | Not a bit disappointed - the setup was almost perfect after I tuned and tweaked the intonation. I did have to raise the E just a half-turn of the set screws to keep it from buzzing when I play hard.
For the inevitable naysayers:
1) I have maybe 1/4" left on the B string saddle intonation screw. If I hadn't stretched the strings to help them settle and seated them all at the witness points it might have been a near thing, but after doing this, it was fine.
2) I haven't had to touch the truss rod.
3) The B string is plenty stiff enough. I don't say "tension" because what you feel is not the tension, it's the stiffness of the string, or resistance to lateral pressure - which is only partially related to the string tension.
The sound with both pickups at max volume is ... thunderous. And yet this instrument weighs about 0.2 lbs LESS than my 4-string Mikro. Must be the basswood body.
It may well become my favorite bass.

How is the balance? Does it hang headstock-heavy?
Are the pickups arranged for noise cancelling when both are on?
