Now I find it in my hands a lot... I'm really enjoying the play-ability of the short scale neck. I guess I'll keep it.
So, number me in, please!

Love the pickup choice. Replace it with an EMG DC35, and you're cooking with Crisco! http://www.fender.com/products/mikey-way-mustang-bass

darrell | Had one for a while... liked the look... cool for an eighties gig.. . But could not get used to the headless thing... plus my crappy technique did not mesh well with the roller bridge thing. I kept dislodging the strings at he bridge. As it was just gonna be a backup and novelty I sold it...

Haven't had a problem with the bridge exactly, but I don't like the wide string spacing. Thinking about searching out a different one.
One day I'll find a perfect bass (big sigh), but in the meantime...

| | Just days from retirement. | | Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: Lincoln, NE | | | Picked up a ESP B5 JR today. Doesn't play too bad, but doesn't seem loud enough for the volume of the bass and amp.
Can't seem to get the intonation set though. Using my Boss TU-3 it shows sharp on the 12th on every string. Tried adjusting the bridge and no change. Look at it tomorrow when I have more time and see what's up. If not let my luthier look at it, or return it.
Neck feels ok for a fiver, not too bulky, and rather flat. 24 frets. Fit and finish are pretty good for the price. Balance feels ok, very light, I'd say <8 lbs.
I'll know more after playing it a bit, installing flats, setting intonation, seeing about the pickups. If I keep it, come spring out will come the heat gun and sander to remove the nasty black poly and do a refin to a color that's more acceptable to me.

Thanks! | (I posted this on the other thread, but posting here too in case anyone else here was interested...)
Sorry it took a while to get back to you with this info! This is what I got (measuring with a fabric tape, lol.)
Total length (tip of headstock to bottom strap button): 41.5 in
Body length (top of horn to bottom strap button): 18.5 inches
Body width at widest point: between 12 1/4 and 12 1/2 inches
FWIW, I've been playing this little 5 string Brice a bunch more just lately because my Birdsong Hy5 is in the shop awaiting a new varitone pot. In fact, just such a situation is exactly why I wanted the Brice in the first place, lol. Anyway, the more I play it, the more I like it. It's a good backup to the Birdsong and could be a nice main bass with a few tweaks.

(The body width and length look fine... I'm not sure about the depth of the angled headstock, though.) I'm using a Gator guitar case on my Hamer SB4, but it's shorter than the Brice.
On an unrelated note, does playing bass make a lady hotter than she already is?

'68 Starfire II with original case to boot! Has typical wear and tear and shrinking headstock issue, but the sound is all there!

-Jeff | Just curious. I understand the pup selector switch and the tone and volume knobs. What are the 2 other ones for?

most guild owners call it the 'suck switch', but i rather like the low-end it produces.

Over the last few years, I have made a decision to stop gigging and recording and to spend more time with my family. I have accomplished this. I've also paired down my gear substantially. I've called this "semi-retired" from the music business. My last distraction from my family are my daily visits to TalkBass. Well, that too is about to change.
I have chosen to limit my TB activity to once every couple weeks. So, I will not be around to assign numbers to our new club members and to move these requests forward. We are currently at Number 385.
Can I ask one of you fine people to please take the reins and continue assigning numbers to those that want them?
Be well my friends. See you down the road a piece. |

Ha ha, that's a trick question! We all know here that playing a bass makes everyone hotter than they already are!
