I’ve done some research and the EMG 40 fits. It’s a 5 string pickup but it plugs right in. I’ll look into the John Worrell pup.
Thanks

I’m only a part time player and play a number of instruments but I found it takes one short practice session to transition. My transitions are sometimes a couple of weeks to a couple of months apart. I have a dozen basses along with an upright I just got for Christmas. I can say the transition back and forth from bass to upright is fluent and very exhilarating.

Hey shortscalers,

Played a Gibson SG yesterday and was blown away. As a long time fender fanboy and p-bass player I was positively surprised by how much easier a shortscale was to play for me, especially since I have short fingers.

Since quite a handful of my favorite sounds were done on an SG, I think I found my bass to end it all lol. Too bad the thing was strung with rounds and I couldn't play it through a tube amp though (I'm a die-hard flats player, rounds feel like sandpaper)

Money is an issue for me and since I've also wanted to grab an upright this is gonna be a tough decision...

I’m going to try to slip this one in although. I’ve seen some flack given for overlapping the two sides of TB. But it’s a short scale.
This is a Strunal 1/4 upright and is the short scale of stand ups. The neck is a 1½” by 16”. I got it for Christmas and played it Christmas night until my fingers hurt. The adjustable bridge, new strings and electronic pickup are on my shop table waiting for installation.

That's awesome! But it looks like a cello - is there any difference besides how you tune it?

Give Birdsong a try. I own two- a fretless 4 and a fretted 5. Every bassist that plays mine, covets them; every sound engineer I've worked with compliments them. And yes, the low B sustains for days.

It looks short because the stand is retracted and Im 6-3. The stand comes out a foot more. The tuning is the same.

will be joining this club soon - just tentatively purchased a second hand mahogany EB-0 reissue for cheap, will be decking it out with short scale chrome flats, CTS 500k pots (audio for vol and linear for tone), orange drop caps, switchcraft jack & artec sidewinder mudbucker wired 1960s style.

if the bridge/tuners give me trouble i'll replace those too - what have you guys put on yours? i saw an EB-0 with a badass bridge & hipshot tuners that looked pretty sturdy, but interested in some more (and perhaps cheaper) opinions, considering all the electronics mods and new strings will cost me under half the price of a new Badass bridge.

I'm all for this club now. After playing my Mikro in practice tonight, I'm quite happy. Super comfortable and easy to play. I'll go as far to say as I doubt I'll ever play a "standard" scale bass again. My band agreed the sound of the Mikro was great too.

After a few years of playing my Gretsch 2202 I figured it was time to get an SX pbass. Arrived yesterday, I've decided to call it Blue Thunder! Apologies for the demon dog in the background.

Drop C on a Mikro?

Due to the limited availability of string gauge choices for the short scales, would it just be easier to buy a 5 string Mikro or LTD B5-Jr and tune it up to Drop C?

if you aren't averse to flats, d'addario chromes will easy handle down to C standard (in my experience).
