I'm having issues with the truss rod on my Skjoldslayer.

The relief is currently at 0.5 mm (fretting the 24th and first fret, measuring at the 8th fret). I want to set it to 0.3 or even 0.4 mm. I tighten the truss rod till the point where I don't feel comfortable applying any more force - I do not want to cause any breakage.

The neck does not move. It is seriously driving me insane, I've never had any problems setting a straight (or even introducing back bow) on any bass or guitar before.

Any suggestions?

If you don't have a local tech you trust to evaluate the neck/truss rod, get in touch with Pete. He knows his products and will almost certainly have a recommended course of action.

This is all supposition but it sounds kind of like the nut is bottoming out on the truss rod as if there are no more threads on the rod.

Sometimes these rods can feel pretty tight at first adjustment if the rod has been set in one place for a bit. Have you tried first loosening the rod by a quater turn? This will break it loose and then you can turn it back and see if it gives you a bit more once it is freed up. If you don't feel comfortable putting anymore tork on it then I would recommend taking it to a qualified repair/luthier to have it adjusted. I have had these rods feel like they have nothing left but they have to be pushed a bit and then they give you all you want. BUT, it does feel like you might be putting too much if you aren't used to it.

Please email me and maybe we can work something out with finding a tech to take it too. I want to make sure we get this looked at. If there is a problem I will take care of it from my end but the last thing we want to do is break the rod. So if loosening it and then tightening it again doesn't get you anymore movement we will need to take further steps.

Please try this and then let me know thru my email how things turn out.

Pete

Pete's Da Man. Some day I may be worthy of a Skjold bass. Note: Worthyness is based primarily on my wife's perception of my needs.

Do you mean actual date of the 10 year anniversary? It would be officially September 3rd 2003 - 9/3/13. That was the day I got my business licence but obviously it has been a lot longer than ten years of building basses.
