It looks incredible from any angle. That's one thing that grabbed me from the moment I saw my first Tobias, my brother's '85; They're as much works of art as instruments. There's just something about that one in particular that I really, really like. I prefer the look of the older Tobias basses to most of Mike's (and Gibson's) other creations. The simplicity has an elegance that the Psychedelic Spalted Burl Ives Whomping Willow topped instruments don't have. Not that they don't look good in their own way, and I'm sure sound and play great. I also for some reason prefer the look of a light colored (maple) neck with dark (esp. purple heart) stringers.

Dagnabit, I thought you were going to PM me so that I could be #2.

At any rate, here are three of my pre-Gibson Tobiases (sold the bubinga Basic 5, though):

Here is a shot of the 12th fret inlay on my Classic 5 (this is Obe's bass, for those in the know):

Here is a Contender 4 that I picked up off the 'bay, but it needs some love, and will be going back to Michael to help get it back into tip top shape:

And what the heck, here is an action shot featuring my red Basic 5:

Serial numbers - Tobias only made the Toby Pros in Korea sold through Musicyo.com. MTDs - Korean are Saratogas and Kingston series basses.
Do you have one you are trying to identify?

A Korean Tobias will have a "Tobias" logo on the pickups, dots on the fretboard if fretted (though some US ones did if ordered that way), and 4 control knobs arranged in a "diamond" pattern (similar to the Contender above). These are the easiest ways to spot a Musicyo Korean made Tobias.

Here is my Killer B 6. Early maple body. The build quality on this one is top notch.I have sold or traded this one twice, and it keeps coming back. Maybe I should take a hint?
