Just picked up a flame top TWB 5 string last week, and the store has a nice 6 sting also.If neck wasn't so wide,I would have bought it too. Wouldn't mind having a 5 string with a quilt top,or another fancy top. Great bass for the money!

I had a TWB-43 that was not so impressive after owning a real Japanese Zi. However, that was an amazing wood combo. Paduak over Figured Mahogany. (I've never seen Figured Mahogany before!):
I've had the privilege of owning this Zi-I or II 4 string w/ Mahogany back and sides over Ash core:

When I got it, the body wing was separated SLIGHTLY from the neck. It never moved in the 3 or so years I owned it. It was the only bass I had that nailed the crystal-like tone from Dream Theaters first album 'When Dream and Day Unite'.
Having had such regrets selling that one, I had to jump on this when I found it. It's a '92 (I think) Zi-II. Same as my 4 string, just w/ different top, back, fboard, and hardware color:

Unfortunately, this one has had the preamp replace with a Bartolini. It came with the original tuner buttons as well, but I kinda liked the Willis-style buttons.
If anyone knows where I could get an older Tune 2-band preamp, I would be VERY happy!!! |

Looks like you can order directly from the Korean Tune website, but the prices on there are a little steep. A TWB63 6-string with flame maple top for $1432, plus $102 for a case, plus shipping to the US. My local Sam Ash used to have the same bass for about $850!
Is there anywhere else in the US that sells them?
I've never seen a Japanese Tune in person, but I've loved the Korean ones for years. Dumb luck prevented me from ever owning one, though. The one time I had the money, I came across a TWB63 with ovangol body in Sam Ash that I had to have. I went in the next day, and of course it was gone. This was right before S.A. dropped Tune from their product line, so they couldn't order another one.

Probably because I spent 3 hours of our trip perched on a stool mesmerized by the sound and more importantly the FEEL of this bass. It's laced w/SS flats.
I'll get particulars on it later if anyone's interested.

| | | | Can I get a member # too I own two tunes. A TWB-53 & 63. Yep I'm a proud owner too. They are my first basses, I've never owned anything other than the two. I've played several different brands on occasion and even liked some of them.
I was on the hunt for a couple of years when I ran across the Tunes. I had a few requirements for my desired bass and off I went. Well when I came across the 53 the flamed maple top caught me first then the price. So I played it. For a first bass it did me just fine. Well, six months later I came a cross the 63 for less than I bought the 53 for and it was / is a beautiful Ovangkol top w/ african mahogany body. I always wanted 6er so, home w/ me she went. We've been in love ever since.
That was a year ago! Now the 63 is due back from a little pup job this coming week. I can't wait to see how she sounds. I went with some Bart quad coils and an Aggie pre. I'm so excited and uhh, can I get a number for the Tune club. Thanks
This is my first post after trolling here for years and its to join the Tune Club. I'm a GAS sufferer and will be purchasing a custom bass sometime next year. I'll post pics of the 63 when she returns. If she sounds right, the 53 will be next.
Keep it on the one! |

Ideas? |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Feb 2002 Location: australia | | | thanks moondog, i bought in Hobart, Australia from the local music shop,it cost me AU$2,300 back in 1991 i think. a cousin of mine has one as well, a syncron i assume (the pickup surrounds and knobs are black), i emailed Devisor at Tune in japan about 10 years ago and he said that it was extremely rare too (and that i should keep it)
Apparently there is a Synchron version and mine is a Synchron 2.
Ive heard nothing else about them and im really interested in anyone being able to help me.
Ive played it around the country from punk to rock to acid-jazz to blues and original acoustic and it fits in with all really nicely.
