Hmm....

That wasn't bad at all. I adjusted the action first, and it took less than an hour.

Thanks, man.

I'm really liking mine, too. I now understand the cult-like following of these basses.

A great bass!

If you get a lighter pic post it up! Hard to see the grain.

Beautiful basses. I wish my maple 5er was as light as yours. Mine has yellowed and the purpleheart stringers have browned, still beautiful though. Where did you get those knobs on the wenge 5er? I want to put the Millenium preamp in my maple and like those knobs. I also have a 4 string Tiger Eye like yours, but it has a birdseye fretboard. I really like the ebony board, but beggers can't be choosers when you get a deal like I did.

Lighter pic but the grain doesn't really pop. Sorry.

Thanks. I like 'em. Updated family photo included....please print before drooling on your keyboard or iPad

Knobs on the Wenge are stock rubber with a silver line in the groove so I can see where they're set on a dark stage. The knobs on the others with the Mill pre are a combination of ones off an old DJ mixer with the outer mid being either an EMG or a cut down stock Cirrus.

Thanks. It cleaned up pretty well. There is a groove in the grain below the G string that bugs me a bit, but with the uneven wide grain of wenge I guess I have to live with it.

This spot is a particularly wide deep discontinuity in the grain. I already gave the top a sanding & wax to smooth it out generally but I'll have to resort to some filler if I want to get this particular area flattened out. I think we'll just call it "mojo" and move on.

Yeah that sounds a bit more extreme than what mine was like. Either way it's a beautiful looking bass

Nice. That's the first oiled redwood I've seen.
Strings - just make sure whatever you get is long enough to fit the 35" scale. I use D'Addario SL's, but I think I'm in the minority.
Light pick marks should sand out OK. Those look do-able.

A light sand and reoil should help with that. I'm a little surprised they just oiled it. Redwood is generally very soft and can ding easily.

Just sand it and re-oil. I use Watco finishing oil products with 100% success.
I use Cirrus and D'Addario SL strings.

IMO D'Addario makes the WORST strings on the planet... whether it be bass, guitar, or violin. I think they sound both flat and shrill at the same time. Anyone who designs strings with colored retainers (so you can tell the strings apart(?!)...), is designing for Walmat and beginners.... (no offense Gabriel51).

Artist to Tech > 'Hey, I broke a string'.... Tech to Artist > 'What color?'

Next we'll get the colour coded ferrules upgrade kit so we'll know exactly where the colour coded strings go!

I'm convert to DR strings.... either the Sunbeams, Hi-Beams, or Fatbeams.... the Sunbeams being my favorite on a maple Cirrus. The Cirrus brand strings are also quite good.

I've used D'Addario acoustic and electric guitars for years. Never had any problems. I would prefer to use Elixers on my acoustic, but D'Addario is the only company selling a coated .070 for my 7 string.

I've mostly only used Cirrus strings on my Cirrus basses. I think they sound great and they seem to last forever. And they're cheap, too! I think every set I've bought has been between $15 and $20.
