| | | | I know, but I bought the 1999 from a small mom and pop, my first "real" bass, and was very proud of that thing. I had to sell it a few years back to pay the mortgage. I have had a bunch, some KILLER ones - including the ultimate in my eyes. A brand new gloss black body with full maple neck/board 5 string. It was the only one I ever saw. Never seen one since. I had a few redwoods, a great 6 stringer, a killer red/maple. That's when I could sell them for a good price without taking much of a loss.

After years of being a Trace Elliot user, I've finally decided to change up. During a recent move I placed my Trace stack (4x10" & 1x18") in my mother's storage unit. She unexpectedly passed away in October. I wasn't able to retrieve the storage unit because I just simply didn't have the money. So, I lost my Trace stack which was the red stripe series that I loved.
My band members secretly put a fund together to buy me a new amp. I've been running through the P.A. for a while now. They surprised me with the money for a new amp and after only a few minutes searching locally on Craigslist, I found a great amp. It's a SWR Black Beauty 1x15" combo with a horn. These are fantastic amps and I found one in mint condition with the footswitch and cover for $500! The bass is back! -Luke

I used to use Trace Elliot too. I was loyal to them and used them exclusively in the 80's and 90's.
Now, I also use SWR and Mesa. My main gig rig is an SWR Super Redhead 210 combo and for some reason the Cirrus and SWR together is the perfect sound. They were made for each other.
Kudos to your band mates ! They sound like a good bunch of guys.
Cirrus + SWR = Heavenly tone !! |

He didn't. I just get leery of grossly misspelled auctions looking for my cash. http://www.ebay.com/itm/peavy-cirrus...item19d8b82674

One of you 5'er guys should snatch it up. That is a $2700 bass (to be argued)

I believe the BXP's have a preamp that looks like a Bartolini's NTMB with individual pots and a small mother board.
The reason I am asking is that I want to put a Cirrus pre in a custom but the one board version may not fit. |

The BXP electronics are sealed in a plastic case that looks like the cover from a P bass pickup with separate pots. The BXP doesn't sound as good IMHO. I have one kicking around here somewhere that you can have for the cost of shipping if you want it, but I'm in Canada so you could probably get a new one locally for the same cost. You'd be better off with an EMG or something similar if space is an issue.

I have used a Bart NTMB before with Cirrus pups, but it was a little noisier than the USA PCB. |

It actually had that warm, barky tone that I like. I am just used to the DEAD silence of the Cirrus pre. Not to mention the crystal clarity of it, too. It's like having an SWR preamp on board !
Is there an EMG BQS like the cirrus pre without the variable mid ?
