I do not know how it sounded before, but be sure that they did not in the way we would have liked.

By the way, the last 705 firmware was 2.01, but the 700 came to 2.05. I wonder if there is any difference in the description of that version.

Upload a screenshot here, if you connect the bass to the Line 6 monkey!

Anyone know if the individual string volumes can be raised without the latest firmware upgrade?

No big news, after all!

Except the bass setlist I posted today on Line 6 forums, of course:
http://line6.com/support/thread/90597?tstart=0

It has meant a lot of work, but I think I've finally found some tricks to make it sound like it should.

Anyway, if any of you have a Pod HD, try it!

I love my variax. I wish someone with time/skill could set up a workbench. Looking at the product output of line6 today, I doubt bass guitars/effects were very cost effective for them.

Okay, I just found this place and I am having a blast looking around!
I have been wanting a Variax Bass for a while, but I really didn't want an Ebay one.
I like to "connect" with an instrument before I buy it.

Well, last week, I visited our local music store, and there it was.
I knew it in an instant, thanks to the lack of pickups!
A Consignment Variax 700 Bass with ALL the case candy! (cables and all)
I hooked it up (nobody in the store knew about the power supply and the XPS box)
I Played it and the people in the store were amazed at the sounds I was getting
going through an amp with NO EFFECTS.
All the models worked and there were no issues physically or electrically.
So, for $500, it was MINE!
It is Black and it looks great next to my Red Variax 300 Electric and
my Sunburst Variax 700 Acoustic.

I need to do a setup on it, but it is in great condition.
Plastic still on the pickguard.
Finish has no flaws.

Now, all I need to do is figure out a switching system that will allow me to
switch between these three through the VDI connection of my POD XT Live.
I'm thinking an eight-pole, 3 or 4 position, rotary switch and RJ-45 connectors
in a box mounted on the guitar stand.

Sweet great find my goodness is that a great deal. I had never heard of the bass stumbled on it one morning saw one demo and I was hooked bought one the same day. I can't put it down I just love being able to switch sounds so quickly. I really wish the bass could have taken off it is incredible.

When you get a chance show some pictures of this beauty.

Thanks for starting this Group.
I like the idea of banding together to try and convince Line 6
to add the Bass to Workbench.
I like Workbench for my other Variax guitars
and would love to see what I could do with the Bass!

I'll try to get some pics up.

I did come up with an interesting idea.
If you took the electronics out of a Variax 500 and installed them in a Bass,
You could have a 4, 5 or even a 6 string Bass with all the potential
of using workbench with the bass.
I know that I have setups for my Variax guitars that drop the strings an octave.
This allowed me to do bass lines when a bass wasn't available.
I wouldn't doubt that if you used piezo bass saddles, that you could make it work.
I guess I'll have to find a cheap Bass and a cheap Variax 500 and Frankenstein them!

Okay, I removed the strings and gave my new bass a good cleaning and waxing.
I did the setup on the Bass.
The neck is so straight that the action dropped nearly level the length of the neck.
No buzzing and the intonation is right on!
This thing is heavy! Of course with my back problems, it's even rougher.
Other than the weight, the thing plays smooth!

I think I will be getting a hipstrap for this thing!

I finally got my black 705 back from the shop. They replaced the B string piezo and did a nice setup on it. It has what look like Ernie Ball strings on it, not my favorite, but they sound pretty new, so I'll keep them until they die. I'll post pics soon.

OK, pics. Also, note the new avatar!

Here's the black one. I'm sure the red thumbrest is original, even though I've never seen another one.

And, a picture of my "unmatched pair" of 705's:
