Welcome!
To gary ashall, I don't know about an MB8 fretless. Could it be a custom order or a custom mod? Anybody else have some personal experience with these?

I use a pre-fender sm400 head with a custom built 15" cab (ev1 built into a flight case (thiel style)
I use a washburn abt force 5 and rock a lovely m13 pedal (use mostly for some reverbs, fuzz and delays) Sometimes its just a big tuner pedal for me lol
i ended up with this bass in a trade on craigslist.. and i'll never get rid of it. Sounds great, plays awesome and wont leave my hands ever.
I played a show couple days back and one of the other bands bassist had a warwick and thought my bass had a better sound than his.. Gotta love washburn.
i started playing bass when i was in high school on my dads guild pilot.. great bass.. eventually i wanted my own.. i bought a bantam xb120 at a local shop. served me well for years but was definitely entry level. But even being entry level still had a great sound.
anywho. i'm a huge fan of washburn basses. |

I dont have a Washburn bass but I do have a very old "Washburn" acoustic guitar. Its made by a smaller company that Washburn bought in the 1900's called Regal. My guitar is circa 1930's. More info here... http://www.jagshouse.com/music/regal.html
I'll post pics later today.
This guitar has the weirdest harmonics I've ever heard. Its kindve thin sounding but rings overtones like mad. Very musical in person but when recorded it sounds too thin. A wide, deep V shaped neck, great for finger picking. This and my lawsuit Hondo Ric are the two things Id grab running out of my house if it were on fire.
I also have an old 50watt SS Regal combo from the 50's, that I do have a picture of. Its currently not working and I'm using the combo as a single cab but I have plans to repair the amp.
So can I squeeze into this group with stuff that was once made by Washburn?

No one I have shown it in recent years has even seen one before. I have a few other basses that I recently added to my collection, but this particular bass has a very distinct tone and feel that keep me coming back. |

i grabbed a $2100 fender jazz bass and hated it. lol strings were really far apart and it really didnt sound like it was worth $2200.
it was really light.. which could be a good thing.. but i like the weight of my bass.. feels sturdy

The truss rod cover is blank and that's where Washburn used to stamp the model name. It's unique because it has a brass nut, brass saddles and thru neck. It sounds very distinct from my Fenders and Ibanez. It's also got a fairly wide neck (1.75) but plays well because it has 22 frets so the reach from note to note isn't uncomfortable at all. It's a very high quality, well made instrument.
Washburn's record keeping from back in those days leaves a lot to be desired. I contacted them initally to see if they could ID it and they couldn't. It took some google searching to figure out the model name. You would think as the original owner I would know these things.

Thought I would point it out to you in the hopes that you might be able to get a little more info, or at least see another one.
Its listed as a Lyon series...perhaps that is why you didnt find much info http://www.ebay.com/itm/Washburn-Lyo...item1c2f414bd5 | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
