I own a stock Washburn AB90 4 string semi hollowbody in black finish. I have it strung with Pyramid flatwounds.
I am not sure of the year I bought it used. They manufactured them in 2004 to 2006 I believe.
Great bass for blues...super warm sound. I get more complements from this bass than any other bass I've owned..and I've owned alot of high end and vintage basses.

Washburn makes some great instruments...totally under rated IMO

Has anyone noticed that those of us who have old washburns tend to not feel the need to find a bigger, better, newer whiz bang bass? It's like being in on a cool secret.

I took mine to a Talkbass GTG and no one wanted to touch it.......the various Spectors, Modulus, and so on got all the attention......the one guy who finally gave my XB600 a spin said that it was the most comfortable six-string he'd ever played.

I don't think mine counts as old per se... but I don't think I'll buy another production bass. I may dabble in customs but I'm good otherwise... so yeah, I'm with ya.

Just so everyone knows that I think I may have discovered (even though it is a very small thing)--the SB as in the SB-40/40EQ may merely have stood for SOLID BODY. Nothing more exotic than that. Please note the SB's meaning for the bass is IMPLIED, because it was later, in 1984, that the Washburn acoustics were electrified in what they called the Mirage Series, with transducer and acoustic pickups so that a 2" thick body (and front piece style) would SOUND like a purely acoustic guitar. And then they evolved that in 1987 into the SBF(Solid Body Folk elec acoustic) and the SBC (Solid Body Classic) and the SBT (Solid Body Telecaster Shape) and the SBS (Solid Body Strat shape). I mean, they were really stuck on the SB thing as meaning Solid Body.
So I am thinking (maybe wrongly I admit) that this whole SB-Solid Body designator thing was actually used first with the SB-40 bass. Then adopted again into the change-over of hollow to solid acoustics.
Whaddaya think?

BTW, I have no idea what the B by itself meant as in B-40. "Butt" for all I know. Actually I think it just meant "Bass".

And to make matters worse, I just came into possession of a 4-page 1983 or 1984 review from a UK magazine talking about the "new" Force 40 (with picture). But yet it has the B-40 elec package! And I cannot find it in any catalog pages for 83 or 84. And the Force 40EQ (the first Force bass I can uncover--had indeed the SB40 elec package just like the B-40EQ and SB-40EQ). So now I have ANOTHER mystery Washburn bass to track down and find out why it is reviewed, but not present in catalogs. I have located the guy who wrote the article and he is STILL a reviewer in the UK. Hoping he kept records so am awaiting a response from him and see WHAT ELSE he may have reviewed (pray for the SB-40 please) along with mucho questions. What is the emoticon for pulling out your hair?

I think you mean implied, not inferred. If they name it sb 40 they are implying solid body. If you see sb 40 and think solid body you are inferring!

ahhhhLOLOLOL! Good for you, Mel.
Got a few other leads going for info and hope they pan out. Including a Japanese acquaintance who may be able to search all the old Japanese sites for me. We'll see. Dang it, turn over 1 leaf and there are 2 more underneath that!

Possibly an AB-90 or AB-95? They were both semi-hollow basses that were quite large...
