OLP BASS CLUB (Part-I)

Well, seeing as how there is an OLP Megathread, I figure the next logical step is an OLP club!

This club can be for ANY OLP, this includes Ernie Ball models, Spectors, Trabens, etc...

As founder of said club, I'll start it off:

Model:
OLP MM2
Year: Unknown
Means of Acquisition: MusicGoRound, Wilkes-Barre, PA
Modifications: Dunlop StrapLoks, Seymour Duncan BassLine pickups, copper shielding, new nut.

Now let's see some awesome OLPs!

How good are they? There's a used OLP 5-string Stingray at my neighborhood store that's kind of tempting me.

Seems I could drop a G&L MFD or SD Basslines MM humbucker in there, add series/parallel/split mini-toggle, and it would really rip.

I have an OLP MM3 that I bought on the bay. Arrived with a twisted neck. It was a case of shame on the seller for not mentioning this little issue with the bass, and partially my fault for not asking.

So, from my experience, OLPs are nice. Mine is light and the feel of the neck is really nice (my twist not withstanding). Electronics are mediocre as far as I can tell. Play it before you buy it!

Thanks man!

I love my TL sig. It's the best sounding bass I've owned and the neck is just perfect for my hands.

MM3 is the best sounding cheap bass I ever bought. Only paid $150 brand new. but the neck warped after a few years and I had to convert it to a fretless. I kept it passive and it sounds great. OLP is either hit or miss, doesnt look like they had quality control on the wood

What's The History on the 3 knobs?

I posted on a different thread also. What's up? Mine seems to be 1 vol, and 2 (mysterious) tones.

3 knobs

Volume bass and treble as far as I can tell. Mine has a great neck with mediocre electronics. Don't play it much anymore but it's a good backup.

Mine has front coil volume, bridge coil volume, and master tone. Jazz bass, but with the sections of the humbucker. I'm planning on rewiring it
Master vol - Master tone - Series/parallel switch

So it is 1 vol and 2 tones !?

It's just a little weird having a passive bass tone. Those pots are usually rollOFF not roll-ON. This bass has the natural headstock and has only one wire headed to the pickup. Thanks.

There was an old Ric model that had passive Vol/Bass/Treble, and IIRC it worked pretty well.

Thanks, I'll try the knobs with that in mind. I thinking of adding an active 2band eq like the older stingrays, but I want to keep the totally passive option in case I want it. My sound man and I both am going back to passive settings. It's easier to work with. I hate having too many choices with knobs and selectors. My old passive P-J has turned into my number 1 bass (again). But the bridge humbucker gives me that dirty MM slap ala Talking Heads. If I can make it do "Sade" too, I might never put it down.
