$100.00 and he threw in a set of new strings. | Nice score- I'll give you $300.00 for it, you'll have a nice profit! I'll throw in another 300 and take the pink thing off your hands too
Man, but read that email he got as a reply, and uhhh, no that doesn't feel right.

I also feel that negating people buying vintage instruments as silly, is, well, silly. If I had the money and Stanley Clarke had an instrument up for sale, I would want it! "Things" have more value than just function, in many cases.

That's not going to solve the money problem, though.

Me too thinks it's too good to be true. I'm not a vintage guy by any stretch, and that one's got me wanting to take a drive. It's gotta be bull. |

I wouldn't bother arguing with someone whether or not the world is flat or round either. So believe what you believe. The vintage instrument market will continue to exist and thrive without your participation. |
The vintage market exists, and probably always will as long as there are people willing to overpay for something that is percieved to be more valuable simply due to it's age. Just because I don't agree with something doesn't mean it shouldn't exist, I'm not a liberal. I just prefer to waste my money on things that are new, it's what drives the economy you know?
Created some local economic stimulus and bought this last week for $3K:
It'll be delivered just in time for my daughter's 5th b-day party. I feel a best dad ever mug comin' on for father's day!
Guess what, in 50 years it'll be considered vintage and I'll put up for sale for $300K on Craigslist. I look forward to hearing from you all.

| I'm not sure you understand value. Things aren't valuable simply because they're old. You can buy 100,000,000 year old fossils for $10.
I'm sure your kids will have lots of fun on that playground set, but one could make an identical point about "overpaying" for items like that. In 10 years, a person who "wastes their money" on a vintage instrument is going to have a guitar that is as or more valuable than what he paid for it today. In 5 years, your kids will be too old for that playground set, and you'll have to pay someone to take it off your property. |

| | | | I don't know about all this vintage stuff being overpriced.
I've played a butt load of basses since getting into this a while back.
NOT 1 of them comes even remotely close to my 62 not even kinda close.
It's a massively noticeable difference in EVERYTHING!!!!
I don't know what kinda vintage stuff your trying out or basing your opinions on, but I have guys that regularly call me over just so they can play my bass for a while.
This is no exaggeration in any way. There is a world of difference.
Idk if these basses are worth the obscene amounts of money they fetch but as of yet, I've not seen or known of a bass that can touch it.
And it's been to multiple guys houses that have some really nice gear.
Am I saying its not possible a new custom bass can't be better, NO, not by any means, but I've not seen it yet. I'm sure there are better, and I'm sure those better or equivalent are going to fetch just as obscene of a price tag.
I hope this made sense, I had to rush to thumb it out on my phone before running out the door to pick up my son.
If not, I'll try and word it better later. |

I've had nothing but good luck buying and selling from CL because unlike E-Bay or any online purchase, TB included, you can actually put your hands on and test what you are potentially buying. Generally you go to their homes to see the items, that nips the scam problem in the bud.
CL and online scam stories get way out of hand IMO. Tens of thousands of items are bought and sold every day without incident, you just hear about the one time it goes bad. |
