I voted for the Fender. I have one, installed a dual coil Fralin in the bridge, and it's been a keeper since I bought it new in '99.

The neck through Yamaha looks pretty sweet, though. Is it active? Your preferred styles and what tones you're looking to get will probably generate more commentary.

The one in the picture? It's the Ibanez. I do believe it's passive.

Got to be the G&L or Ibanez...2 different beasts despite the pj configs. Get both.

Out of the ones listed, I'd choose the G&L. But, that's just me. I love the feel of the G&L neck.

i play a one year old sb-2, it's so easy to play, cuts through anything, and it stays in tune for a surreal amount of time, plus it's light

I think it has the vari-mid 3band EQ. That's the one I'd pick because of the nice slim neck, smaller body, and 3band EQ.

The Fender might have a better resale value, if that mean anything to ya.

Yamaha BB424X if goin' for new: very, very versatile bass

Well, secondhand, Ibanez P/J SR1200: VariMid electronics with reverse wound split pickup let you sit in every band mix with ease and authoritative presence.

Cheers,
Wallace

1. No "-ez" guitars in my house.
2. Yamaha is the most quality consistent manufacturer in the industry.

My vote for Yamaha.

I'm a P guy, so I voted for Fender. I hurt my shoulder last week, and wanted to minimize schlepping, so at band practice today I borrowed the Ibanez bass that was already there. Not good. It sounded sort of OK, but the percussionist, who is used to the P cutting through loud and clear, complained she couldn't hear me, even with it turned 'way up. And the ergonomics were dreadful. My shoulder feels worse now than when I left to go play.

No thanks. I'll carry the P along, next time.

The SB-2? The SB-2 only has two volume knobs per pickup, no tone. Heh.

It's an older SR 1200. It should be active. It's a nice bass.

That's what I thought too, but I never saw anyone say it was/didn't see a cavity for the battery on the back of the body. But I guess I know now.

I mean, it's used so it's possible that it's gutted and changed out to passive. Originally, it was active. With it being an older model, it may not have the separate battery box.

Im gonna say the Fender, only because I loathe Ibanez necks and the G&L SB not having a tone knob always bothered me (kind of presumptuous on their part, like they are saying "we know best and you dont need a tone knob, silly fool".
