I own 6, but I could easily get by with just my 4003 with D-Tuner on the E.
It does everything I currently need, and is what I use almost exclusively.

I have 2 basses but haven't touched my TRB5II in 6 months. I'm only keeping it as I will eventually have it de-fretted.

My Dingwall Combustion gets all my playing & practicing time.

My Warmoth P has gotten me through a punk band, a blues band, a country band, and now a modern psych/rock band. I also fool around with some jazz players with it. Mostly with just a tweak of the tone knob, I can get pretty much anything I need from it. I don't have any plans for a new bass, just some new pedals maybe.

Don't know if I'd ever get down to just one, but I do need to thin the herd. I like the idea of simplicity, but have a hard time practicing it when the GAS strikes.

I consider myself in this category, sort of.. I have one electric (Squier Standard Precision V) and one acoustic (Fender BG-31). The acoustic is missing a string due to a bridge issue. I will be replacing the acoustic with a new acoustic, most likely fretless, someday down the road. I'll probably use the new acoustic at a few gigs, but it's mostly for practice at home and ear training.

I'm a simple kind of man.

Variety all the way! I'm moving toward PJ from P. The extra pickup helps with neck dive.

I only play my Alembic Spoiler live. I have an Ibanez fretless as backup and break it out for rehearsals sometimes. Michael Kelly Dragonfly ABG at home for practice.

Well, my wife is pretty tolerant of bass accumulation, but 41 is actually a bit of a stretch.

I've searched and searched for "the right bass" for me, I bought A 1967 Ventura Hollowbody a few years back and its been my only bass for years now. I love that tone of that thing. Mess with the treble knob a bit and get a completely different sound. Sold all my other basses when I got this thing.

Ive allways found myself happyest with one great bass. Though Ive owned 2 for fair amount of time returning to one has allways been nicer.

Maybe I'll just put a sticker of a J bridge pickup on there instead.

I tend to agree. We have discussed this on other threads - the sound of the bass really matters only to US, 99% of the audience couldn't care less, as long as the thump is there. SO - why not have the most comfortable, pleasant bass to play, and don't worry about the sound, as long as it is basically acceptable?

Yeah, I keep asking myself this, but the number keeps hovering around 15-20. One only would be nice, but I keep enjoying the variety. If I had a gun to my head, it would be my USA P. No. wait, my Jazz with TI flats. No - it would really be my Hagstrom Frankenbass. No wait wait . . . . . . . DANG!!

I currently own 5 basses and use them all... But more often than not (unless a fretless is called for) I tend to only bring one bass to most gigs. I adjust my technique and or mess with the pickup balance to coax different sounds for different situations live. For recording dates I tend to bring out 3 or 4 for tonal options. I tend to be a minimalist when it comes to gear though because the majority of the time i'm playing small-medium size stages.

I only had 1 bass for many years and never really had a problem.
In the seventies I had a Univox P bass, in the eighties a Gibson Victory Custom,
Then in the nineties I had a MIM Fender P Bass for a few years then switched to an Epiphone El Segunda A/E.
In the 2000 era I went to Westone Thunder 1 P Bass but gas hit around 2006 and I started collecting .
I am down to 7 basses now and I use my Fender USA JP90 as my number one and still my Westone as my number two.
But for thirty some years I only had one bass and didn't need any more than that.i just carried an extra set of strings with me and did regular maintenance . Never even had a string break, until I started bringing a back up, broke 3 E strings at one gig ,replaced the bridge the next day, back to no problems for the last 10 years . Have fun with it.

I'm having so much fun with my Alembic that I can't see having anything else. I will need to buy an amp sooner than later, though.

I don't ever see one bass as an option. A fretted 5, a fretless 5, and my upright. That is the minimum I could own to
Be a fulfilled bassist.

I had a MIJ 1960's reissue Jazz Bass for over 10 years as my sole bass. I was playing about 20 gigs per year and recording two or three times per year.

Sold that, regret it. Bought a MIA P-bass. I love it but would love a Geddy Lee jazz and a second P-bass (one for flats, one for rounds).
