Which one? SX Jazz or Precision???

Looks like I need some help deciding. Anyone having these models chime in on comparisons. Short scales:

1st - SX Jazz model http://www.rondomusic.com/ursa2jrmnwt.html
2nd - SX precision model http://www.rondomusic.com/ursa1jrpackwhite.html

I have a Gretsch Junior Jet with one mini humbucker, so the new one would be the partner to it. What does everyone think??? I play more progressive hard rock and like more of a warmer sound. ideas here which would be best and if quality is about the same in these two models of SX.

I have three SX basses, a J and a P and a PJ all in standard scale length. As far as the character of the sound, they are indistinguishable from their Fender counterparts. You could listen to sound clips of Jazz and Precision basses to help you decide. I'd imagine the quality would be similar between the two, and Kurt will take care of you if there's an issue. The SX Jazz and P both sound really nice. I've had a number of both over the years. I think for the type of music you play, you'll find the Jazz a bit more versatile and a bit "brighter" than the P. The P will definitely give you that old school Classic Rock sound though.

It's a tough choice. Both could be made to work well for you. But you'll have to decide which is best for you. Search out some clips on YouTube to get an idea of which sound you like better.

I thought about the PJ actually as I see they have that option now too on the Rondo site. Anybody have these new PJs and can vouch for their sound ???

I owned an SX P/J for a few years, and it sounded great for what i needed it to do at the time.

SX P/J played with a pick into a Traynor YBA-3a into an Acoustic 4x10.

What upgrades to these SX basses (specifically the J and P/J) would be worthwhile (pickups, neck, etc)? I have a MIM P bass so could someone compare the necks to a MIM Fender?

sounds great here - I play through a Carvin BX1500 and 2 Carvin BR 410 cabs. Seems like a great warm sound and a little punch to it. Nice - thanks for posting. Any others????

PJ if available, otherwise Jazz, simply for the tonal options. You could potentially get the jazz and convert it to PJ

I'd say wait until it's in your hands & see how it sounds. You might be surprised by how it sounds stock. Tuners would be first in my book, but only if they're not holding tune as is. Bridge MAYBE, if the saddles slip.

Come on! These are SX basses! Look at that price! Then look at those basses! You buy them BOTH. PERIOD.

Since I only play 5ers and above these days I just WISH I could buy a nice SX P and P/J 5ers to go with all my Jazz SX basses. So my Squier P/J will have to do for now.

Found some YouTube videos of all and went with the P!
Sounded most like what I want, but the PJ was close.
Might get a PJ too if the P is as good for the money as everyone says.
I will post info once it is in. Had it sent right to my local luthier
So he could set it up for me and give me his thoughts on it.
He's never seen one, so he's curious too.

A good fret level and setup turns your bass into a giant killer. Maybe a new nut, checking solder joints, cleaning/replacing pots. They're made out of good wood and the hardware is economy but good. The pickups are underrated, and the design is solid.

Yeah, although I would've been a little more subtle. Something like,"You left a word out of your title. It should read 'Which one FIRST?'"

And now that my SX Ursa 2 hum project is done, I can think about turning my SX 5 string P with the 2 J pups into a PJ.
