Opinions: Active MiM Jazz, or MiJ Jaguar?

Hi All,

I've been hit by a want of an active Jazz, and i can't seem to decide. In my price range (<$900), it looks like an Active Fender MiM Jazz or a MiJ Fender Jaguar are the top contenders.

Any opinions one way or another? Any other recommendations? How "Jazz bass" would a G&L Tribute L-2000 get?

A L-2000 does not sound very Jazz Bass at all in my ears, but it can sound Precision.

I would go for the Jag personally.

If a Jazz bass is really what you want, go for the MIM Jazz. They're good instruments at a good price point. You could probably find a lot of MIJ Jazz's in that price range, too, if you don't mind going the used route.

I'm a big fan of L2000s and you can get a really huge range of tones with them, especially if you add a single-coil mod, but I haven't found the L2K tones to be especially like a Jazz, IME. Great tones and lots of 'em, but not really a true Jazz tone.

I have nothing at all against the Jaguar basses, but a Jaguar is not a Jazz - it's a Jaguar.

Hmmm... looks like you'll be getting all your answers from Brooklyn today.
