P Bass aficionado's....need advice/help

Ok guys/girls, me thinks (knows) its time for a P Bass...its only taken me 20 years for me to realize this. I not sure which brand just yet...might piece mail it, might go custom, maybe go with std run o the mill Fender....dunno what I'm gonna do at this point. All I know, is I want a P! My only caveat is that whatever I get, it needs the A neck (jazz profile/width). I guess my main question/concern is what P body style?

I like the bigger style of the 56 P's and prior. But the post 57's are a classic.

So....are/were there any sonic differences between the two body styles substantial enough that one can difinatively tell the difference between the two body styles? Or does a 56 P sound just like a 57 P?

Also, which body style do you prefer and why?

Thanks!!!

I love prior single coil, "S" shaped pickguard Precisions too, but I love thick necks

If you prefer Jazz necks, you can go with two MIM models... Precision Special, an active deluxe version with three band equalizer american serie split coil pickup and Ceramic Noiseless bridge pickup
Attachment 312576

Attachment 312577
Duff McKagan's Precision, a passive "treble/bass expander" circuit bass with same split and a Seymour Duncan HotStack at the bridge

Cheers,
Wallace

If you like Precision basses, you will love a G&L SB-1!

Finding a used one with a jazz neck may take some searching.

You can order a new one, although G&L doesn't advertise them on their site. About $1000.00

Contact a dealer.

Just get a Fender 2012, they are really nice, they also have the nice 62 pickups. Lastly, go for the maple fretboard. :bassist: Mine only weights in at 8 pounds and its a tone monster.

^ Yep, I sold all of my basses and bought a 2012 Fender american standard 4 string p bass. They have the Custom shop 62 pickups and play great. I put a set of Chromes flats on it and should be set for the next 10 years.

Maybe the Modern Player Jaguar? Its got the nice maple and blocked Jazz neck and the P/J pickup set. Nice price tag on them as well.
