Cheers!
Thanks for putting that together man. It is cool to hear all the different amp sims through basses that I own. Nice! Love both basses!

That P>SVT one sounds nothing like my real life one. P wins regardless IMO

P for me - that, and every single one of those amp simulations sounded (to me) awful. The DI clips were completely pleasant though. Again, this is only to my ears. Thanks for the clips and for sharing with us! Personally, a P/J bass works wonders. No need to lug 2 basses... unless 1 is the P/J and the other is a Ray, but that's just me.

I didn't like any of the amp sims either, they all sounded scooped and boomy IMO. The DI signals sound great though.

If my jazz bass sounded like the one in your clips, I wouldn't want to gig with it either. I don't care for that thin scooped thing. But that's not at all the sound I get out of mine, or my Roscoe Beck. That said, I should be taking possession of a 2012 MIA P5 tomorrow, so we'll see what floats to the top...
Roscoe Beck's will win for EVER ! and +1 about that poo poo neck pickup sound with the jazz, seriously W T F ?? I think that when some people do prefer a bass, they tend on underestimate the possibilities of others.

I'm a Jazz guy for slapping... and I love the sound i've got with flats and the neck J pickup, like emulating a P, and I love P's also !! maybe more beefy, more organic, that's not really the same sound of course (not the same pickup, and not the same location)
THIS is what you can get with a neck Jazz pickup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeDnT6GgwJQ

That said, your soudclips are very , very biased.... only one technique used (plectrum I guess), only one location with you hand... so... not really convincing !

They BOTH sound good. I like them BOTH. No need to choose. Then again, I like chocolate AND vanilla about the same, too.

You're missing the Jazz boat, then - IMO, the two best Jazz sounds are pups in series, and neck pup wise open, bridge pup rolled off 25% or so... Don't get me wrong - I'm a P Bass fan, but a Jazz with a series/parallel switch is a WAY more versatile instrument, IMO/IME...

I solved this whole issue by owning one of each.

IMO, the Aerodyne doesn't really do the P or J thing all that well - it's kinda it's own animal...

So that is what a Jazz sounds like with flats. I really like that. I may have to change my strings before I buy a P to see the versatility. I have another set of rounds if I don't like it. Great clip, BTW.

Love the P sound and J neck, so I play a P special. The DI does sound best.
