They make a 5 string jazz bass pickup cover for the Marcus Miller Signature Jb, you can actually order replacement one online so I thought that could be an option, just don't know if it will fit a Pbass pickup.

TB'er lostrings has (had?) a P5 that he added one to (it is one of the Marcus 5 covers) - looks killer! Hope he doesn't mind me posting pics: Quote:

I'll mess with the set up on my basses if things are going out of whack, but I also take my basses to a luthier every year or so for a good pro set up and he tweaks them better than I ever seem to do on my own. He always gets things low enough that I'm reminded to play with a lighter touch (something my teacher always reminds of) to keep the strings from buzzing on the frets but, if I want that, all I have to do is play a little harder and it's there.
EDIT - I see you're in South Jersey. The luthier I go to is Pete Brown (South Jersey Guitar Repair) in Collingswood.
2) Can't help you with that one. I kind of like the look of pickup covers, but I always thought they'd get in the way so I never bothered with them.

If you want it done cheap and you want it done while you wait, then definitely go to Sam Ash or Guitar Center. His set ups are on the expensive side - $60 - and it will take a couple of days. However, he'll do some basic adjustments right away while he chats with you. Then he'll check it again a day or so later and do the full job once those tweaks have settled in. Finally, when you come in to pick it up, he'll set the intonation as the last step.
I really like how they play after I get them back, so I take mine to him once a year and consider it worth it. Plus he's a trained luthier so, if he sees any developing problems, he'll let you know. I also take all my new purchases to him to get a good set up and have them thoroughly checked out so I know exactly what I bought.
I know several people who take their instruments only to him. That includes my instructor, who played in a band with him until not too long ago.

I'm currently stringing mine with D'Addario Chromes (ECB81-5). Gauges on those are: .132 - .100 - .080 - .065 - .045 . I definitely like how these flats sound on this bass. The stock Fender strings were okay. And my usual standby of Dean Markley Blue Steels just didn't sound right with this instrument. The only downside to this set is that the strings aren't long enough to run through the body.
On my next re-string, I may go with D'Addario's ECB81-5SL super long scale set. But I'm also tempted to try out DR's Legend 5 string set. Has anyone tried those on their P-5? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
