BTW, i LOVE what you did with Guildaxe on the teardrop - under the sunburst. Back in the early Eighties, I had a Vox Wyman... That was the tiniest, playingest neck. Too bad I wasn't disciplined enough to take it where I'm striving today. | Right on! Love SF, and the Parker! Let me know when you'll ever play live w/it! Speaking of your Wyman, I had a VOX Cougar hollowbody way back when but lusted after the VOX Phantom bass!
Thanks! Check out my site that just launched! gildaxe.com |

Tone? Now that IS FAT!

Tone? Now that IS FAT! | Oh.., skinny as in side-profile/'width', fat as in a 'squat' profile, and phat as in a huge bottom sonically. Yes, yes and yes. |

I wish I had a woodshop. | The twin MM buckers can offer up plenty of beef, but are still reliant on the wood-type/construction and electronics. (and strings in a somewhat lesser capacity) These are the big three pillars that need to be there when creating a rockin' bass. |

If someone wants a deal, this eBay auction has a PB51, with minor cosmetics, going for 450 BiN price.
I'd say, go for it! Replace the straplocks, for 12 bucks, and Simonize the back of the headstock. Then jam yourself some Erotic City.

As you can see on this thread, I recently bought one of these and it's become one of the basses I reach for the most since. As a long-time 4-stringer, I was never really drawn to 5'rs. I eventually bought one (an Ibanez SR505) because every bass player needs at least one in the stable. Don't get me wrong, the 505 is a great bass, especially for the price and it plays and sounds awesome! But as you all know, some basses become "that" bass (or not) regardless of anything but some nebulous mix of things/reasons that makes it all come together for each individual. Partially I think this may be why these Parker basses are passed over when in fact they are so nice - especially for a price like this one is going for. Since becoming a Parker devotee, I've seen more of the 4-string Hornets than 5, so if you are willing to take a chance and you need a really sweet 5'r ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...E:B:SS:US:1123 |

I just want to spread Parker love, and have an excuse to show bass pr0n. For UK buyers, there is another PB 61 Hornet. In UK, these appear to be more appreciated - if pricing is accurate indication. This 5-er is 900 quid. With three weeks, and offers accepted. Worth going for!
Now, for the sweeter bit. One of the Fly basses in in London, for local pickup. These are the rare ones, with graphite necks, stainless frets on epoxy fingerboard, and Fishman, piezo-electric saddle pickups. It's priced at an "ouch" of £1,695.00. But, again, there are 2 1/2 weeks on it - and best offers accepted.
Both have the great, Parker gig-bag. You could do worse!

The mix of exotic but subtle flamed & spalted maple, mid-toned mahogany sides and multi-lam (maple & darker strips of?) neck-thru/string-thru back w/small dotted ebony board covers all the bases visually for me. And the satin finish is nice also. The best part about it is that the areas you touch and play the most start getting glossier. It lets you know it is a player! I don't even mind the brushed gold so much amymore.
And the other one probably sounds awesome as well. Hope to a least play one someday as it is way beyond my price range.

I just got another one myself- they are quality bags other than the cheap strap-clasps. Be extra careful about just grabbing it w/bass inside as the clasps disengage easily or in my case - break! It sent the 5-string Parker my height to pave and broke off a piece of headstock. It could have gone worse as it separated at the top/side laminate-joint fairly cleanly. Even the very thin spalting on the face helps hide the subtle crack post repair. Carpenters glue/clamps and 24 hrs later it's solid. I'm doing a few coats of satin after leveling the crack edges w/a flat-razor and wet-sanding. By the time I'm done noone will be able to tell anything happened.
But as far as the clasps... I'd replace them full stop. The rest of the bag is worth it and you don't want what happened to me to happen to you.

Of course, I follow you on the luthier threads. Glad you are able to make it right. I will take your word on clasps. I drag mine to 4th st in SF every week. Don't need me no assidents!

Don't need me no assidents! | I'd include an "after" pic of the headstock but it wouldn't show anything! It looks like new. Included is pics of my latch replacement repair on the bag. Basic sewing skills using heavy gauge thread, much stronger non-swiveling clasps combined w/the wide plastic locking clasp (for adjustable strap width) coupled to the metal clasp is what it took. I also replaced the upper house-shaped ring w/a key-ring for more security. Sorted! |

As I've written on this thread, these are really underrated tone-hammers. If you want 24 frets, and a really up-front/in your face aggressive sounding bass (would be an awesome metal bass) - check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...E:B:SS:US:1123 | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
