Peavey T-20 Need Testimomials
 

need some feedback by people who have played this please.
more info the better.

I had, and loved a T-20 for a while:



It's not for everyone, though. It's a very heavy bass, so that can be an issue. It has a much darker, Gibson-y, kind of tone; even though it looks like it'd just sound like a P-bass. The neck is also very wide. Wider than a P-bass, and just about as shallow. I didn't mind that, but again; not for everyone.

On the plus side: it has amazing playability. Despite that picture, the integrated thumb rest on that Super Ferrite pickup is VERY comfortable to play finger style with. It's also a very balanced bass. Even though that slab of Ash is quite heavy, that beefy neck counterbalances things quite nicely.

Now, MY bass had a horribly warped neck and i couldn't fix it and i couldn't find a replacement neck... so i let it go. I still miss it... but if i wanted a P-sounding US made Peavey, i think at this point i'd probably choose a first-run Fury (had the slanty super Ferrite like the T-20), a T-45 (My favorite "P" ever), or a Patriot.

I saved one from certain death from neglect from a pawn shop recently.
Thanks to some good advice, and a little convincing from a member here.

I got it home, did a full set up, cleaned it, re-soldered one broken joint, and very lightly went over the neck with some 00 steel wool until it was as perfectly smooth as glass.

Put it all back together, plugged it in, and instant LOVE set in.

there is NOTHING heavy about it. (Not mine anyway)
It weighs barely over 9lbs.
It does have a very thick neck, but honestly if that bothered me enough, and I had no intentions of selling it, that'd be an easy fix.

It plays great. It's fun to play.
It's enjoyable.
Sounds awesome, and kinda has its own little uniqueness to it.
I was able to get a VERY low action on it w/o any fret buzz, which I like.

Honestly I can't come up with anything negative to say about it.

Best $50 bucks I've spent in a long time.

Well it's in the T family, so it's a solid bass with excellent hardware, for starters.

The unique pickup has a distintive sound, like a baked in "plonk". Played with a pick, instant 60's pop vibe. Not a lotta tone variety, but big on cool factor for those who appreciate such things.
