Any prizes for being the last poster on number one??

Do I get a membership number now?

I'll put the images up again.

Last pics on the old one, first pics on the new one.
What an honour.

Cheers.

Well with that many T-40s you should be deserving of that honor, especially with the rare colors.

Flat Eric,

I can not think of a better post to end Part 1 and kick off Part 2, than those great pictures of some seriously minty tasty T-40s. Stunning.

That body does need a bunch of TLC, but the same dude has a treasure trove of parts (neckplates, trees, keywinds, nuts, pups, switches, bridges, and knobbery) for the well-loved, yet incomplete T-40 in your life...

Anybody tried wiring their T-40 different from stock? I'm thinking of going for single/humbucker switching for each pickup, instead of the tone knob setup. Then standard V/T for either pickup, and P/U selector switch. Any suggestions for what size capacitor I should go with, and 250k or 500k pots? I've used both in a variety of basses.

My 1st T-40 is a 1981 with blade pickups and stock wiring, strung with some well-worn TI Jazz flats. I have a pair of toasters and a single blade P/U for the project. Anyone have any experience mixing and matching the two types?

I have a friend that is using a T45, with T40 pups, with closer-to G&L L2000 spacing and wiring... thus creating...

The T-2000

The T-2000
Sounds pretty cool. I'd love to put a pair of T-40 pickups in a P bass... one in the P position, one at the bridge to cover 60's and 70's J positions. I'm tempted to put all 3 pickups in this T-40, and just getting a pickguard to cover it in case I don't like or use the middle PU.

EDIT: Here's a pic of my project T-40. Nothing is wired in, but it's currently 'wearing' the toasters. I'm kind of considering going with black knobs, unless there are some good chrome top/ black bodied knobs out there.

It's hard to tell, but the body is actually stained black, not a stock black job. I DIY'd the finish last week. I won't be doing any protective coating or anything.

There must be a lot of tones in these basses - look how many pickguard screws there are on them to keep them all inside!

T-40 was the most versatile bass I ever played...

Then I wired up some custom passive electronics including varitone switches in a couple basses

But seriously the T-40s have some great combinations with the coil tapping (or whatever is done to make the pickup sound single coil if not an actual coil tap) that let you get a good variety

Question I just don't know what to think...

I guess you can do whatever you want to a bass you own...but this?

"Personal opinion - looks cooler than orig T40"

I bet it weighs less than my 81 lb. '80 SiennaBurst...
