Hoping to replace the Rapture this week...I need some frets in my life, despite my love for the Penta!

^^^^ Me peeking out from behind the piano in the Marcus shot...the only sane thing to do was hand the bass over and step aside!! He loved it, BTW, and commented on what a great bass it was. Pedulla love!!!

Of course, my nuts have still not dropped back into position, after looking up and seeing Marcus Miller walk into my bass gig...

pedulla people! i will be one of you before the year is out i've resolved to save my money for a pentabuzz and finally get back into fretless playing, which was how i started on bass. very excited about this. i played some used pedullas at guitar center and was extremely impressed with the sound. the 19mm string spacing was tough, so mine will be definitely be 17.5mm. i've been emailing back and forth with Christine and she has been extremely friendly and helpful, in accordance with her reputation.

i did have one minor question for you guys: which half of the P pickup does the A string use on a pentabuzz? it doesn't matter much to me - i know it sounds amazing, i'm just curious.

I have no idea which one of the pickups catches the A-string. I asked Christine about it, because I was curious, too. She didn't know, and I didn't want her to bug Michael about it...he was in the shop cranking out basses.

My Penta is Arctic Midnight. It's nice...my hardware is chrome. If I had my absolute choice, I'd put black hardware on it. I am really happy with the sound of Black Beauties on it, and the color of the bass pops more nicely against the black strings, too. Win-win. But I like the look of the blue/gold combo...lots of comments here about how good that combo looks.

I would say, though, that when I bought my first Pedulla (the Rapture), the 19mm spacing felt weird compared to the 17.5mm Warwick fretless that I was playing at the time.

Eventually, I preferred the 19mm. I don't know if I could really go back to 17.5 now!! I ditched the fretless Warwick for the Pentabuzz, and never looked back...

Yeah. I love that so many people don't quite get Pedulla basses. It amazes me that you can find MVPs and Buzz basses for well under 2 grand. These are easily some of the best made, best sounding instruments you can buy no matter what price. I just finished a gig with my old beat up MVP 4 and the tone was amazing. People actually cheered for the bass solos and I'm not really a great soloist. Tone can be an amazing thing. If you play anything remotely funky check out Doug Johns and buy one of these ASAP

I was guided to this bass by a complete stranger who became a friend over the years. Long Ly was working at Bass Center, L.A. at the time and I wandered in looking for something to distract me from the end of my first marriage. I told Long I was looking for a fretless and he showed me this guitar somebody had special ordered then walked away from. I was a little overwhelmed... but it felt SOOO good! I checked out the Modulus models they had there, The various Tobias and some other makes that I don't remember, because nothing felt like that Pedulla. Nothing sounded like it to me, either. I STILL love this bass, 16 years later.
