The bass came with Boomers and they seem pretty bright to me...I recently strung my fretless Stingray with LaBella Tapewound Flat's and like it alot (more of a traditional upright sound) but I'm not sure how this will work with the Pentabuzz
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated |

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated | That seems like sacrilege on the Buzz!
Otherwise it would be called the 'PentaThump'.

| | | | Hey all,
Quick question: Any Thunderbass users out there tried flats? And, if so, your opinion on the sound would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks

Really nice thump.
Feel fantastic.
Hardly any fret rattle.
Not dead sounding....just enough snap.
Just the right tension for me.
Will definitely re-string with these.
Also, I have been playing A Pedulla 5, Vintage Cherry, Thunderbass for the past 13 years. Could I have a number please.

Tommy | I do like the Nordy + Audere combo because it gives me something quite different from the 'Pedulla tone'. Since I play on the aggressive side, this definitely gives me some more teeth
Usually I play just the neck pickup and roll back on the treble or there is just too much top end. Another thing about this combo (at least on this bass, maybe others have a different opinion), is that Ernie Ball Slinkies (45's) sound horrible. I put on a set of Carvin nickel 40's and the difference was night and day (I'll use EB slinkies, 40's and have been happy with them on my stock t-bolt).
So far my favorite pickup/preamp replacement has been using Delano HE soaps with an Audere pre - very, very growly in the mids, a little less in the bottom than the BigSpilts, but I can help compensate if I need to with the active pre. The top end isn't as hyped on the Delanos and it really lets those rich mids sing! The strings for this bass: Ernie Ball Cobalts - freakin' amazing! I've also used DR Lowriders which sounded great as well.
As far as other preamps, I really haven't had much of a desire to try anything other than the Audere (ok, maybe a Mike Pope Flexcore) - the Audere really doesn't color the sound and the EQ points are pretty much right where I want them).
I've also used Bart classics, which were very nice (much more open than the stock Barts in my t-bolt, plus by adding the DTDP switch it gave me the option to switch between Series/Single/Parallel).
And finally, I installed SGD pickups in my Thunderbass, but even though they sound nice, I don't reach for that bass too often (I finally found a string that worked better with these pickups: DR Highbeams) - I have also just ordered replacements from Kent Armstrong (custom).
