He's the bassist for Muse, one the most popular rock bands out there.

He played one on the "Lick It Up" tour. It only had the "P" pickup in it IIRC.

I have a rapture 5 and it's one of the best sounding basses I've ever heard. I don't get the price issue either. Honestly I have a Fodera and it sounds different but every bit as good.

My rapture is like the best Jazz bass sound I've ever heard.

It seems to me that the resale value for 90% of the basses out there is about 50% of the retail price. It just becomes more obvious with the expensive ones.

All I know is I made a big mistake when I passed on a gorgeous black NOS Rapture JJ5 for $800 a few months ago. Unplayed and flawless w/tolex case, 19mm spacing, hang tags, build sheet, case candy. A truly fine instrument and lightweight, to boot.

I have to say that any high end bass loses value on the secondary market. I sold my Alembic recently and not only getting nest to no interest it sold for a lot less than half new. Look at used Hamers.

My suggestion, buy a used Pedulla. They are light, play like a dream and feel good. Heck they even look great. If I ever start making real bucks again I'll be looking for a MVP.

Bought a very used MVP 4 last year for about $1000. Build quality was and still is impeccable on these hand made instruments. Other than years of player wear, scuffs/dings, scratches, etc it plays perfectly and sounds amazing. Balance on the MVP/ Buzz basses is phenomenal as well. These things are a steal at $1500 or below. $1800 if their in great shape. Easily the same build quality as my old Smith BT4 neckthrough for half the cost. Buy one

EVERY boutique bass loses re-sale value. /QUOTE]

+1

Can anybody think of any boutique other Wal that gained value?
Carl Thompsons occasionally gain in value, but that seems to be on a case-by-case basis.

I picked up a Single soap bar Rapture a couple of years ago at a local pawn shop.
Yes, it had a $1000.00 price tag, but I didn't pay that. Waited a year for the price to come down... it didn't help the shop that the output jack was crap, the set up was crap, but I saw the virtue of the instrument and got it for about $500 after they "got tired of looking at it"!
Put a couple of hundred dollars into it to get it fully functional and it's my main player and my band loves the sound of it! They tell me to keep the RIC in it's case, grab my "green bass" (rapture) and rock it.
Looking at the price of new Raptures, I can't see myself replacing mine at any time in the future! Look at the used market and be ready to jump into it, if you see what you want.

David Buda, one of my favorite bass players uses Pedulla Rapture J.
He use to play MVP's in the past.
